A patient with a pulmonary embolism (PE) looks stable. But could their condition take a turn?
The 2026 AHA/ACC PE guidelines offer an updated approach to identifying patients at risk for deterioration.

How big is the global burden of blood clots?
A new study led by @MassGenBrigham researchers estimates that in 2019, there were ~1.6M new pulmonary embolism cases and 2.5M new deep-vein thrombosis cases worldwide. Even more compelling? These conditions can be prevented ⤵️
Positive CV trials get noticed—but does funding matter? Among 433 RCTs, Altmetric scores did not differ by funding source, while industry-sponsored trials were cited more frequently, driven largely by trials meeting their primary outcomes. jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.jacc.…#JACC
Grateful to have led this work highlighted by @JACCJournals with @bbikdeli and 🌟 coauthors!
Very interesting observations and discussion on the role of funding source in the online and academic impact of #cardiovascular RCTs🔻

For aspirin, the prior RCTs enrolled less than 100 pts & <4 months of f/u.
COATED-AIR has 3,000 pts and ~2Y f/u. Will be v informative for practice.

A second randomization will test a hybrid strategy vs usual care to mitigate the adverse effects of air pollution on CV outcomes 😷🌬️.
This is in a space where we similarly lack individual-pt-level outcome trials.
