theoretical physicist not in harmony with the average roommate

I'm actually very happy that they lean formalised the classification of finite simple groups; proof was too big anyway. It also demonstrates the uselessness of formalisation: if they didn't catch any nontrivial errors in THAT, the odds anything else has such are lower

Excuse me Pope sir you've launched 4 Crusades? Or were the previous popes fallible?
NEW - Pope Leo XIV says "there is no such thing as a holy war," rejecting any religious justification for conflicts around the world: "Only peace is holy."

I think I don't believe that the lightest glueball mass is a mathematical constant like pi is, heretic though that may be for a string theorist

FWIW my clanker (Deepseek) claims that the result "near the conformal temperature for theories smooth from ..." follows from results in arXiv:1606.08443 by Nakaguchi and Nishioka from a 1-page calculation

This is surprisingly close to the correct argument-- big win for one chinese open model versus two big american closed source ones

It's also notable that the coterie of mathematicians that OpenAI courted doesn't seem to be involved. Instead there is one relevant scientist (Jaffe) and Gross (?) Nekrasov (?) Douglas (???)

so happy this practice is growing more accepted; can't wait to have my papers rejected because the AI reviewer noticed they didn't include a seminal paper it hallucinated timeshighereducation.com/new…

No offense to the authors, I'm just trying to make points about the use of AI in our discipline

it's very easy to see a future with oceans of conjectures resting on modest cores of actual arguments with reams of machine generated "evidence". (which is in fact already the case with the swampland programme). this future sucks, though

Good for them! However 1) the result is uninteresting. Worse, 2) even if we accept that AI produced a (borderline) original idea, where does that leave humans? Doing the grunt work of writing up while the machine does (boring) science?
Two physicists asked AI to choose a problem on its own, solve it and write a paper that could be published in a prestigious journal. In two hours, AI produced a paper with a novel, significant result.
