In our unfolding battle with AI, we are obviously fighting our own fears. Not metaphorically, but literally. Our fears are in the texts on which our AIs are trained.

Very true: "Even a wrong (own) choice is better than (a good) one imposed on you." Zelenskyy demonstrates that he (and his generation) has left Soviet thinking behind.

Zelenskyy: US power reaches the whole world, far beyond its borders. When the richest person in the world can influence US policy, it is dangerous for small states that want to choose their own leaders. Even a wrong choice is better than one imposed on you. 2X

Yes. You can feel it. Younger generations are taking over. And you cannot easily fool them.
Hungary, Serbia, Brazil, and now the United States. Is there a new wave of democratic renewal in the world?

Zelenskyy is a wise man. Extreme power should not be concentrated in individual persons. Power should be distributed over all of us. That is what democracy is all about. As we have seen with the rise of new authoritarianism over the last 10 years (roughly), individual persons can have very bad judgement.
Zelensky on Elon Musk: Having so much power concentrated in the hands of a very rich person is dangerous. Concentrating power in the hands of one person who doesn't have much money is also dangerous. That is the whole point of the separation of powers — making sure that everything is not concentrated in the hands of one person.

Zelensky on Elon Musk: I believe Elon Musk's influence, what he says in his messages, what he thinks about how Europe should live, who should play the leading role in Germany, who should be in power in Ukraine — these are not just words. When they come from a very rich person, they carry influence. And he has no right to influence these things. He is a citizen of another country.

This might very well be true. If it is, I am looking forward to the confirmation.
We need to thank @ZelenskyyUa for bombing those Russian data centers. Seriously, doing that helped the US elections immensely. You'll all find out in the future why that is. Volodymyr Zelenskyy restored US election integrity and democracy. Thank you Mr. Zelenskyy #Anonymous

True. He deleted his election-day "Vote red today!" post after the midterm results showed major Republican losses, including in Texas races he heavily funded. Reports confirm that specific post is gone. His account still has many other recent pro-GOP posts and RTs visible.

Trump's truth-bending is no longer working. Of course, we knew nobody can beat the truth, but it is still good to see that certainty confirmed.
he is seriously crashing out

Yesterday, Elon lost. And the reason is that he does not understand people. People are no machines that you can control by controlling their 'inputs'.

Proving once again that the online world created by billionaires and Russian troll farms is not the real world, tonight's Warsaw protest against the far-right.

Exactly.
Another outcome I love about tonight — billionaires who thought they could buy election outcomes are being repudiated by American voters.

I was afraid to open Twitter or the news, for that matter, this morning. Now, seeing Democrats celebrate brings tears to my eyes. I am afraid that is how deep I am emotionally invested in this. I know, we will have two more awful years with a president who will obstruct every step forward. But the importance of the message is what brings the relief. Indeed, democracy is not dead yet. And Musk's 500 million investment did not pay off.
Please remember all the anti-democratic dogs that did not bark today. ICE did not intimidate or arrest voters at polling stations. Trump's attempt to disenfranchise voters in California failed miserably. Trump's planned shenanigans in Alaska no longer matter. Dems already won the Senate. And we dont have to wait anxiously to see what the House clerk will do on January 3rd regarding the seating of newly elected members. This blowout makes that anti-democratic tactic completely untenable now. Democrats won big tonight. But so too did democracy. Those who predicted democracy's death in America were mistaken.

OMB data (fiscal years): Republicans: Reagan: $79B deficit → $153B (+$74B) GHW Bush: $153B → $255B (+$102B) GWB: $128B surplus → $1.41T (+$1.54T) Trump: $665B → $2.77T (+$2.1T) Democrats: Clinton: $255B → $128B surplus (−$383B) Obama: $1.41T → $665B (−$745B) Biden: $2.77T → $1.78T (−$1.0T) Democrats cut the annual deficit; Republicans raised it. Congress sets the budget; recessions/wars/COVID also drive the numbers.

Zelenskyy: A phone call with Putin would be an official, dry conversation where I again listen to a historical lecture from the Russian leader. Russia would use a call as an excuse to stop meeting. To end the war, we must meet and make the first step: a ceasefire. 1/

I know people have difficulty grasping exponential growth, but if your prediction turns out to have an extreme bias in one direction for 20 years in a row, and you still do not understand how to adjust for that bias, then I think it is fair to conclude that you do not *want* to get your prediction right?
Just made an update from "my" Solar reality vs IEA graph for an upcoming book called "Power to the People". The difference is still going strong...

Make Russia stop.
This is the school in Komyshuvakha. And this is what is left of it. First, the Russians struck the school with one guided aerial bomb. Then they dropped nine more aerial bombs on the school's shelter. Just stop for a second and imagine: ☑️ nine aerial bombs ☑️ on a school shelter ☑️ where people had taken cover. Many dead, missing, and wounded. The numbers are still changing. Reports say the shelter in this school was seven meters deep. That is a lot. But even reinforced concrete breaks when guided aerial bombs are deliberately dropped on it again and again. And now the question. Why did the Russians drop at least nine guided aerial bombs on a school shelter and kill at least 31 people, with nearly 50 still missing, in Zaporizhzhia Oblast? Will this deliberate strike on a school be discussed on the international stage? I don't think it will. I have a lasting impression that everyone has long grown used to the fact that we and our children are being deliberately killed. And nobody is interested in it. Photo of the school from Alina Bodnar page.

To be fair, by saying it is easier to cool things down in space, Elon might have meant that he would not have to ask permission from some regulating government agency to build the kilometers of heat radiators his plan would require.
My respect for Elon Musk has mostly vanished, but I still thought that at least he is a good engineer (Teslas are great cars). But that last bit also got a blow after hearing him say that it is easier to "cool things down" in space. The opposite is true. A vacuum is the best possible isolator. In space you can only dissipate heat through radiation. It is extremely unlikely these data centers in space will ever happen (and certainly not in our lifetimes).

Make Russia stop.
An absolute living nightmare. I can't even find the words... Russia has just dropped 10 aerial bombs, each weighing 3,000 kg, on a school in Zaporizhzhia that was serving as a humanitarian aid center for civilians. At least 24 people have been killed and dozens injured.
