#mw4 #devstory time!
One of the most satisfying parts of making
#modernwarfare4 was portraying North Korea in their native dialect.
Unable to speak Korean myself, we relied heavily on our dialect coaches and the actors themselves to make sure the language was as authentic as possible.
@burx would tweak the script to accommodate for the most appropriate dialogue… and we were constantly looking over at
@juneyoon_ for accuracy, but I noticed something else happening…
We were more purely able to focus on the expressive aspect of the actors’ performances, feeling the power of intuitive emotion rather than deciphering the words… we were able to pay closer attention to the raw emotions through subtle eye movement, facial expression and tone. It was a joy to be freed up in that way, to experience the performance on a simpler level.
The take would finish, and I would look over to get the thumbs up that the language and emphasis was also achieved! While we’ve done this in previous titles, the sheer amount felt like new ground, not to mention just how unfamiliar the language and dialect were.
Another humble reminder of just how many people it takes to make a game - and it wouldn’t be possible without all the gracious generosity from everyone on the team. 🙏
