The fact that France already has social healthcare, paid family leave, 35 hour work weeks, and spends more than 50% of GDP on welfare puts these riots in such a hilarious context WTF do they even want

And just like that people buying the innovation
Oh look at that, a Chinese Open Source model is basically at parity with American frontier labs models merely a month after it was said this was supposed to be impossible now, something something no moat, something something the current absurd AI Capex is justified somehow, something something we need some regulatory layer to protect American enterprises.

Chinese AI labs are struggling to release new models because Anthropic has blocked over 90% of their distillation pipeline.

People are misunderstanding the FT article in my opinion. People tried to put together OAI's ARR using the same metrics that Anthropic uses. Anth. uses Gross revenue recognition, and OAI uses Net revenue recognition. $50B ARR using Net Revenue recognition is insanely good. To be fair, OAI can't really recognize gross due to their agreement with Microsoft, so the big Q I would have is whether they recognize net only for MSFT, or for all hypers that sell their product. If you're wanting to do some dip buying on AI names, all else being equal, this seems like a temporary dislocation.

LMAO games journalist can't read. Not surprised. $ORCL $MSFT Just so everyone is cleared up on this. OAI reports NET revenue. Anthropic reports gross. These projections came from attempts to "gross up" OAI's revenue to make it comparable to anthropic. the $50 billion reported is NET revenue. Hence a Gross revenue estimate of $70 billion and a reported $50 billion net is NOT a miss. The article title is super misleading and will trick all the people who do not read past the headline(good opportunity to see who you follow reads and who does not read). If you do some napkin math on OAI we had a report in April that estimated the cloud partner revenue and you back that out and use the same proportion with some allowance for error with a $50 billion net revenue figure it would put you over under $70 billion... funny enough. For further comparison for some of the $UBER shareholders who can appreciate this, with the accounting differences between recognizing the booking of the ride as revenue vs the net of that ride as revenue. Recognizing before the expenses of the partner (driver) has a higher revenue recognition and lower margin and the opposite is true taking the net amount (lower rev higher margin). Its the same thing really and just accounting really. So once again to say that its $20 billion lower because $70 gross - $50 net = $20 is at best misinformed and at worst negligent. I'm leaning on FT might have bad intentions using that headline given they do have a few paragraphs touching what I said above.

We're becoming inured to the daily declines in Iran's currency, but there's nothing normal about what's happening. Since the reimposition of the blockade on July 14, the Rial is down 30% against the Dollar. That's a symptom of Iran's economy imploding... robinjbrooks.substack.com/p/…

$CCL Carnival is yet another long list of companies saying the same thing where it really matters. Consumer is strong/resilient. There is real demand destruction happening in Europe and other regions again consistent with many companies we follow. Marginal buyers of energy are naturally the most vulnerable to price spikes and real demand destruction. on the CCL report specifically, bodes well for $RCL who also should benefit from the same tailwinds as CCL. no position.

The debate around $EXPE and $BKNG frames Meta’s Muse as a threat to OTAs, but I think it poses a bigger challenge to $GOOGL/ $GOOG current model. OTAs currently spend heavily on Google to acquire customers. Marketing budgets, last I checked were massive for them. $META is partnering with EXPE who has a very dominant B2B business offering and I wouldn't be surprised if META just plugs that in. Kind of a headache to actually build your own platform vs just plugging in and taking a fee or some economics. Overall I'm really happy with Marks direction and he keeps proving the haters wrong. Sentiment shift always perplexes me and being a long time shareholder I've grown accustomed to watching the peanut gallary saying they can run his empire better than him. On the OTA's just have short puts on EXPE for now that I sold a while back so I'm technically long but I'm still mulling over the idea of buying shares. Open to others sharing their thoughts here.

ah yes it all relies on debt!
Perplexing to me that the $QQQ's are not down more, the entire AI capex trade relies on lower rates, these rates are restricting the amount of capital that can be deployed into the AI ecosystem.

When you're so levered long legacy enterprise software buyouts you start dooming on how a 5% 10-year Treasury yield is going to kill the AI trade (spoiler alert, it's not, the Silicon Valley people are laughing at you)

There are these things They're called HO-LI-DAYS They often happen in August They're worth trying if you've not before
AI spend per employee at the top 1% of firms fell nearly 10% in August to $7,205 after a sharp run-up since 2024, likely driven largely by lower token prices and greater use of cheaper models.
