I’m late to the party on this one, but what more is there to say about this first season of
#DaemonsOfTheShadowRealm that our lovely cast hasn’t covered? Arakawa-sensei created a beautiful, dangerous, complicated world for her deeply feeling, multi-faceted characters; she’s a legend and hasn’t lost a single step.
#StudioBones absolutely crushes their adaptation and their respect for Arakawa’s long-form storytelling comes through in every frame. In an era where many adaptations try to compartmentalize several chapters in 23 minutes, we are all so fortunate to get to experience this unfold at nearly a chapter an episode. From the beginning, I never viewed this anime in the traditional 12-episode story arc sense; clean and proper seasonal bookends were always going to be missing. This element is what
#YomiNoTsugai shares with its predecessor, Full Metal Alchemist…the story will unfold, be revealed, and stay mysterious until the very last chapters.
It is such an honor to be the voice and casting director for the English dub. To be able to shape and create a similar, but not exact, mosaic gives me tremendous joy. Seeing the spirit of the story and characters inhabited by our cast and the enthusiasm of our production team as it was developed is intensely gratifying. To do what I do is already a blessing—I’m doubly blessed to be able to work on such great and affecting art. I eagerly await season 2 and beyond.
We have such an incredibly large cast and Arakawa-sensei gives such importance and weight to every character she writes. From a hapless security guard to our fated twins, each has a significant contribution to make to this grand tale. So I’ll just say thank you and thank you, a thousand times over…thank you. This is one that will stay with me long after all is said and done. Thank you.
