Inspired by
@chrija interactive 3d bookshelf...
I built an interactive 3d record shop featuring all the music I have purchased for my show, Rhythm Lab Radio, on
@Bandcamp using Claude Code.
I connected to my Bandcamp collection using their Subsonic API integration.
I started the show in 2005 on Minnesota Public Radio, and it moved to Milwaukee in 2007. It's syndicated to stations including WXPN in Philadelphia and Vocalo in Chicago.
Rhythm Lab Radio is one of the very few nationally syndicated music programs based in Wisconsin.
For over 20 years, Rhythm Lab Radio has focused on music that doesn't fit neatly into one box. I do a lot of my show prep in my Bandcamp collection: about 1,200 records I've bought along the way. So I built a place where you can dig through it too.
Walk into the Rhythm Lab Record Store:
- It's a real record shop, in 3D. Brick walls, a neon sign, warm lamps, plants, and wooden bins. Drag to walk around the room; scroll to step closer.
- Eight sections: Electronic, Soul & Funk, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Rock/Pop/Alt, Global Sounds, Left Field, and Fresh Crates by the door for the unsorted finds.
- Dig as you do in a real shop. Pick a bin and flip through it: records tip forward as you pass, and the one you're on stands up. Scroll, drag, or tap through.
- Pull one out. Hit Show and the record lifts out to face you. Open it to play it right there with Bandcamp's player, see the label and year, and jump to Bandcamp to buy it and support the artist.
- Build your own crates. Heart your favorites and make crates like "Late Night" or "Sunday Morning." They sit in their own 3D crate you can flip through, and you can share any crate with a link.
- In a hurry? Switch to Grid view to search by artist or title, filter by genre or country, and jump A–Z.
- Works on your phone too.
Every record links back to Bandcamp, where buying directly supports the artists.
The code is open source, and the About page shows how it all works and the projects that inspired it
