Most days it feels like I'm not moving at all. Then I look back at a year and somehow a lot got done.
I do retros often, for myself, my work, my life in general, and that's the pattern every time. Progress is invisible up close. It only shows up over long stretches, hidden in tiny moves.
The trick that works for me is splitting the work by energy level.
When I'm in a good mood with a full tank, I think. I figure out what matters long term, break it into small actions, and put them on a schedule.
When I'm running low, I don't think. I just do the small things I already wrote down. That's surprisingly easy, because the expensive part, the thinking, is already done.
And one more thing. Shit happens, mood drops, that's normal. What matters is how fast I recover and get back to it. The shorter that gap, the better everything else goes.
