WHEN THE NUMBERS DON'T ADD UP, SOMEONE OWES AN EXPLANATION.
Across this state, thousands of student athletes and coaches have sacrificed countless hours for an opportunity to compete for a state championship.
And now, too many are being told four words:
TRY AGAIN NEXT YEAR.
Not because they didn't win enough games. Not because they didn't take care of business on the field. But because of a ranking system that raises serious questions about how playoff spots are determined.
HOW DO TEAMS WITH A BETTER RECORD, INCLUDING HEAD TO HEAD VICTORIES OVER DISTRICT OPPONENTS, FIND THEMSELVES ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN?
Make it make sense.
@MaxPreps describes its ranking formula as "proprietary."
We disagree with keeping a formula secret when it helps determine which student athletes get to compete for a state championship.
THIS IS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. NOT A CORPORATE TRADE SECRET.
When a system carries this much weight, transparency isn't optional. It's an obligation.
@PayFLCoaches is calling for the
@FHSAA and
@MaxPreps to RELEASE THE FORMULA. Show coaches, athletic directors, student athletes, and parents exactly how these rankings are calculated.
Because when the results on the field don't appear to match the rankings on paper, people deserve an explanation.
These young men don't get another senior season. Coaches don't get those hours back. Communities don't get another Friday night.
YOU CANNOT ASK STUDENT ATHLETES TO GIVE EVERYTHING THEY HAVE AND THEN REFUSE TO SHOW THEM HOW THE SYSTEM JUDGED THEM.
RELEASE THE FORMULA. EXPLAIN THE RANKINGS. RESTORE THE TRUST.
