Got to take the main stage at OpenAI DevDay to talk about plugin extensions! A few takeaways for developers building plugins: 1. Make your plugin part of how people work. Plugin extensions let you build apps that open from ChatGPT’s sidebar, side panel, custom file viewers and editors, and settings for your plugin. Full spec here: github.com/openai/mcp-extens… 2. Put care into what happens after installation. You can provide a custom onboarding skill to guide people through setup and help them learn what your plugin can do. Use that first experience to help someone accomplish something useful and give them a reason to come back. 3. Make it easier to get started. Plugins can support Sign in with ChatGPT so people can connect using their existing ChatGPT account. A smoother sign-in experience can help more people get through setup and start using what you’ve built. @vigyso wrote a great walkthrough of Sign in with ChatGPT for developers who want to learn more: developers.openai.com/cookbo… Here are some of the folks behind the platform: @mxstbr , @ShopifyVC , @tarstarr , and @glencoates . We’re listening to your feedback and excited to support more of the open ecosystem. Hope these help you get building. I’d love to see what you make!

Just wrapped up DevDay Exchange in Tokyo and led a Q&A panel with @barnali_c & @saitonian A lot of developers came up after and asked questions and shared what they’re building in Japan. Some insights / great feedback: - People are excited about plugin suggestions! On ranking, our team can consider plugins that are popular during specific seasons (e.g. tax filing plugin) cc: @vibhor_chhabra @mxstbr - enterprises have strict policies and permissive use of plugins that limit use of them at work. But I shared devs can build private plugins for just your team or workspace! That excited devs. We’ll work to make this more obvious for builders - People love dots! Devs wanted more insight into what reasoning levels were being used on different tasks. something to consider: @TheRohanVarma - chatgpt spaces had a lot of positive sentiment - devs were curious if we could open extension points on that surface cc: @tarstarr - @wonforall and I shared that a good best practice for improved recognition on pdfs/images is to do a quick pre clean before sending it to our image models for best accuracy. over time we will work to make these better
Great to be in Tokyo with @gabrielchua and @seratch for OpenAI DevDay Exchange 🇯🇵 Excited to share what we’ve been building with the developer community here! よろしくお願いします!

A lot of folks have been asking for the content from DevDay. Here’s a summarized deep dive into plugin extensions!
Build richer, more interactive plugins for ChatGPT. With plugin extensions, you can launch plugins from the sidebar, support @ mentions, and add file viewers. See how in this walkthrough with @coreyching:

Opportunity to chat directly with the team!
I'd love to chat with you all about dots, hear your ideas, and get feedback on some of the improvements we are planning! I'm blocking off time everyday for the next couple weeks for this. Down to chat with anyone willing to spare some time, but especially so if: - you are daily driving a personal assistant tool (dots, bots, muse, etc) to do complex work, especially engineering (or have tried) - you have been a power user of Codex, ChatGPT, or other agentic products but aren't finding much value from personal assistants - you have dreams for how all these tools can work and want to steer us towards that direction DM me on here and my dot will send you a scheduling link!

ChatGPT Voice can now call Plugins! This is a game changer. When we launched support for plugins in Codex in March, whole new agentic workflows emerged as the ability pull in context, do some work, and trigger actions got better. Now instead of prompting every task you can just chat freely and use your ideas with the range of all the plugins in the ChatGPT plugin directory.
We heard you loud and clear. ChatGPT Voice can now: - Use plugins like your email, calendar, and Slack. - Be powered by GPT-6 Astra, Sol, and Luna. - Be used in ChatGPT Work on web and mobile, so you can create docs, decks, sites, and spreadsheets or tackle complex tasks in the browser, just by talking. Rolling out globally today in the latest version of the app.
