"Staring defeat in the face, Donald Trump will do everything he can to subvert the election. Americans must be made aware of his evil intent and we all must be prepared to do everything we can to stop him." democracydocket.com/opinion/…
I really hope the Danish team will pull out of the tournament. It is not right to play sport games with Russia while Ukrainian athletes have to die at the front. I will be deeply disappointed if we participate.
⚡️ Russia's national ice hockey teams have been cleared to return to international competitions for the first time since the start of the war
The Russian national team will be able to compete at the 2027 World Championship in Germany, while the junior team will compete in Canada.
Russia's Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev announced the country's return to international ice hockey.
Tons of oncology papers every week, and only a few change how we treat patients.
CarcinoS, built by my friend Dr. Jeff Brower, finds the salient updates for both radiation and medical oncology, and a practicing oncologist makes the final call on every one. Concise, quiet, and refreshingly human.
Highly recommend subscribing (free) and following @Carcino_S.

Most oncology updates are incremental. Few change practice.
CarcinoS filters the noise, so you can reclaim more of your time for your patients, your family, and your life.
Very excited to be a candidate for the @ASCO Board surgical oncology seat. Visit asco.org/election to learn more about the candidates and cast your vote!
"It cannot be stated often enough or vociferously enough," writes Kori Schake. "The Trump administration is helping Russia to conquer Ukraine. The United States of America has taken the side of an aggressor against its innocent victim." Dark and true. aei.org/foreign-and-defense-…
Trump's pivot to help Russia and abandon Ukraine is (1) immoral, (2) not in US national interests, and (3) wildly unpopular at home.

Tomorrow, when you see the front pages of the right-wing press telling you how dreadful the budget was, remember their track record.
Also remember that right-wingers won’t ever be happy with any budget that doesn’t push down on those at the bottom to benefit those at the top.
Every Ukraine backer who argued Trump would not be so bad, Trump could be persuaded to back Ukraine, that Trump was getting irritated with Putin, that the US just wanted peace--should have the basic decency to admit that they made it all up. Trump was with Putin, always.
Deservedly scathing op-ed by the NYT:
“If Democrats retake both houses of Congress, and more state governments than they now control, it will tell the world that Mr. Trump does not represent most Americans. It will demonstrate that a country that starts to slide toward autocracy can move back to normalcy, as happened in Hungary this spring. Most important, it will create a desperately needed check on Mr. Trump during his final two years in office.
…
In a 21-month span, he has done more harm to democracy and the rule of law than any other president in the modern era and perhaps longer than that. He has broken his oath to defend the Constitution by trying to rewrite it on his own. He has refused to honor Congress’s power of the purse and misused national security laws for political ends. He has defied federal court orders on Medicaid funding, deportation orders and more. He has dismantled the Justice Department’s legacy as an impartial enforcer of federal law, turning it into an instrument of retribution against his adversaries while canceling investigations into his allies. He has appointed inept sycophants to oversee crucial government functions, including law enforcement, national defense and public health. He has sought to disenfranchise large numbers of voters, claiming fraud that cannot be found, and championed an extreme new approach to partisan gerrymandering. He has physically besmirched the White House by demolishing the East Wing and financing a garish renovation with donations from wealthy allies.”

The Trump administration is considering dropping sanctions on the Russian Direct Investment Fund, run by Kirill Dmitriev. An unbelievable betrayal of Ukraine. nytimes.com/2026/10/27/us/po… via @NYTimes
This one graph encapsulates why consultants are striking.
Since 2008 they have had a 20% real terms pay cut! Significantly more than the rest of the public sector.
Enough is enough.
To all my consultant colleagues, this GP stands with you in solidarity.
Harry #Kane deserved winner of Ballon D’Or. He has redefined the role of a modern striker with high numbers of assists as well as goals, world class passing and vision, and defending at crucial times. Not as skillful as Yamal and Mbappé, but all round game better.
My *practice changing* take home messages from #ESMO26 to NHS lung cancer teams:
Immediate change:
1. PERSEE. Bottom line - Chemo still alive for PDL1 >50%. Median OS 50.2m Vs 29.9m. Works just as well for 90-100% group too
Fitter, younger should get Chemo even PDL1 100%
#ESMO26
5. SARON: synchronous oligometastatic, actionable-genomic-alteration–negative NSCLC, adding LCT to systemic therapy. RT improved median PFS - 13.9m Vs 8.9m. *No OS benefit*, but no extra serious side effects. Consider LCT in fitter patients with lower metastatic burden #ESMO26
Honorable mentions:
OptiTROP-Lung04 (sacituzumab tirumotecan) and PANKU-Lung01 (izalontamab brengitecan) could change post-EGFR-TKI treatment sequencing.
SANOVO (savolitinib) could move MET-directed therapy into the first-line setting. #ESMO26
