Sorry to be self-indulgent, but I just re-read a couple of things... • The Field of Dreams story was cathartic (theathletic.com/3499705/2022…) • And it reminded me of this story because of the stories theathletic.com/1737321/2020…
In 1954, my dad would ride his bike by the store to look at this Gus Bell MacGregor glove. He saved up $9 from his paper route until he could buy it. Today his son talked with Gus Bell's son and grandson about baseball. theathletic.com/812250/2019/…

The honor of a lifetime. I can’t wait to finally see Cooperstown.
From the Hall of Fame collection: @MelanieLynneN, @SlangsOnSports, @alannarizzo, @HeidiWatney and @LGRed signed this baseball after becoming the first all-female crew to broadcast a regular season MLB game in 2021. #Shortstops » ow.ly/gSGg5103XEP

Trent, you’re easily in my top 7 favorite people in baseball. Thank you for having me on..
We had so much fun on @RiverfrontPod with the one and only @Amir_Garrett. And my mouth doesn’t usually droop like that, but I recorded a couple hours after a root canal, so you know… piped.video/EOd5bEzCP7s?is=Ndcd… via @YouTube

This is a loaded ballot filled with great names. Just a reminder that the committee members only have 3 ballot slots apiece. So mathematically it's almost impossible to elect more than two of these guys.
The Contemporary Baseball Era ballot features four managers and four executives for consideration in the Hall of Fame Class of 2027. Results will be announced at 8 p.m. ET on Dec. 6: ow.ly/UjVe5102Z6Q

From Reds: Emilio Pagán has declined the 2027 player option on his contract and is now a free agent.   The Reds have declined the 2027 mutual options on the contracts of RHP Pierce Johnson and INF Eugenio Suárez. Both are now free agents.   The Reds 40 player roster is at 35.

In my interactions with Todd, he was so kind. Best to all those who knew him and loved them
The Cincinnati Reds are saddened by the passing of former first baseman and 1990 World Series champion Todd Benzinger. Todd will be remembered with great affection and gratitude for his place in one of the most memorable chapters in Reds history. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, former teammates and all who knew and loved him.

Took a stab at this. See thread for sourcing & explanation of discrepancies. I think only the tails matter: ATH, ARI, ATL, COL are low (not good!). TBR, NYY, NYM, DET, CLE are high (good!). ~8 teams have low visibility into their numbers... 🧵
Three teams left, and all three have bigger-than-average analytics staffs. Brewers: 46 (2nd in MLB) Rays: 39 Guardians: 30 League average: 28.5 The Phillies have the biggest staff in baseball, and they're already home. Like payroll, it's one input. Everything else combined still matters more.

So, we're going live on @RiverfrontPod here at 6:45. There's a non-zero chance (even if I don't think it's likely, it's October 19th and we're talking about what COULD happen) that Elly De La Cruz never plays for the Reds again. A Doomsday scenario: piped.video/watch?v=HVbHmnbH…

Correction on this one. I had the Cubs at 25 analytics staff. I now have 46, tied with the Brewers for second in baseball behind the Phillies. They don't publish a full R&D directory and I undercounted them. That moves the league average from 28.5 to 29.2. The Brewers, Rays and Guardians are all still above it. Updated chart attached. I'll continue to do sweeps to see if other clubs are missing significant numbers like this.
