Once we see who might be interested in performing we can figure it out from there! The plan would be to play ~1 hour set at the end of meeting party (real book standards).

BTW, you'll want to click the full screen arrows in the lower right corner to get the full effect (or however full one can get at a measly 1080p).
Early iSOAR 5D movie of membrane and mitochondria dynamics over 3 hrs at 3 min intervals in the head of a zebrafish embryo 6 dpf, covering a 300 x 1000 um FOV at 193 x 193 x 550 nm resolution (0.8 TB total).

True, even a two DOF system can exhibit chaotic behavior, and a single cell is an at least an ~10^7 DOF system (i.e., protein molecules per cell). I still fail to properly convey to others the insane complexity I see in our microscopes, and why successes like AlphaFold only work because of the huge number of unnatural constraints placed on the training data. Case in point (below): lysosome dynamics over 12 min across a 200 x 70 um region in the head of a developing zebrafish embryo, color-coded by depth -- just one of 20k proteins at work. Our Cell Observatory Initiative is more important than ever, but while we have petabytes of the most mind-blowing data ever, we are still hamstrung by insufficient AI talent and compute -- two resources in great demand everywhere. If anyone can help us over this hurdle, we'd be eternally grateful.
Complexity is everywhere. Yet people pretend to be able to predict complex systems.

Congratulations to senior authors Gokul Upadhyayula and Rui Gao and co-first authors Wei Wang @UIC and Gaoxiang Liu + Xiongtao Ruan @ABCUCBerkeley on imaging axons and myelin sheaths across the entire mouse olfactory bulb in wild type and diseased states. This certainly stress-tested our imaging and data processing pipelines to the utmost "...peak acquisition rates of ~2 tera-voxels per hour over 10 days using nine rounds of interleaved on-block volumetric LLSM imaging and photoslicing...yielded ~0.5 petabytes of raw data", but our MOSAIC microscope (doi.org/10.1101/2025.06.02.6…) and PetaKit5D (doi.org/10.1038/s41592-024-0…) were up to the task.
Thrilled to share our Science cover! VIPS (volumetric imaging via photochemical sectioning) eliminates working-distance limits for whole-mount, nanoscale imaging. LLSM + photodegradable hydrogel + petabyte-scale compute → axons & myelin across mouse olfactory bulbs (WT vs NPC1).

Happy that I could play a small part in this before the pandemic and I’m so amazed that 5 years later I’m part of the team!
Finally here! Our preprint on the MOSAIC, a multimodal adaptive optical microscope enabling non‑invasive in‑vivo imaging from molecules to organisms, is out. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… @Eric_Betzig @legant_lab

While Gokul for all intents and purposes IS the ABC, I thought he deserves his own shout out, since none of this would have been possible without him: journals.biologists.com/jcs/…
