2027 LB Derek Holmer has done a tremendous job of responding after a season ending knee injury. He has stepped up into a new leadership role and is helping coach up the LB position group. A great lesson in responding to adversity. Wherever he decides to go is going to be getting a tremendous leader and football player ‼️🦈 #RecruitStaley #BITS #AC26 #FAMILY

Post-Operation Day 3: First day of PT today working on full extension of the knee. Got to get back on the sideline and coach up the guys for the Friday Night Lights scrimmage. Also thank you @CoachRoseIvey and @_CoachStoneking for taking some time to call me and talk about the future! @jeremycrabtree @ElevateRecruits @StaleyFootball @CoachHudgins

Someone is going to look REALLY smart when they sign @derek_holmer.

Post-Operation Day 1: Really missing being on the field. Decided to go back through the summer practice film I got and put together some of my best clips. I was working to have a huge senior season but everything happens for a reason. Take a look down below ⬇️ @jeremycrabtree @ElevateRecruits @CoachHudgins @StaleyFootball @Coach_BT13 @StaleyRecruits

Minor setback for a major comeback. We all know how tough @derek_holmer is. He’s going to crush this recovery! Sending strength your way! 💪🔥

ACL recovery Day 0: During a scrimmage this summer I unfortunately tore my ACL in a non-contact injury. Surgery went great this morning. This has been very difficult for me mentally because football is my life and I can’t believe I am missing my senior season after all the work I have put in. In the meantime, you will catch me either grinding in recovery or on the sideline coaching and leading my team. Adversity is just part of the story. I am focused on coming back stronger. Film Series | Schwartz Athlete Spotlight ⭐️ Derek Holmer @derek_holmer Staley High School @StaleyFootball MLB/LB/TE 6'2 227 Lbs. C/O 2027 Versatile middle linebacker with the size, physicality, and athleticism to also move out to defensive end. Comfortable dropping into coverage, showing the body control and open-field tackling ability to make plays in space. Low pad level and flexibility allow him to strike square through contact, consistently driving through ball carriers and eliminating extra yardage. A handful in the box, using his length and strength to keep runners from working around him while playing with controlled aggression at the point of attack. Processes route combinations quickly, reading the quarterback's eyes to break on the football and generate pass breakups (See 1:28). Screen recognition out of the backfield consistently puts him in position to eliminate easy yards before they develop. Physical, disciplined defender who understands leverage, trusts what he sees, and consistently finishes tackles with authority. Offensive snaps at tight end showcase additional versatility, creating explosive plays on screens with long strides in the open field while showing the ability to seal the edge in the run game.
