Bob died June 17, 2005 during a raid on a compound loaded with terrorists loyal to Zarqawi.
It was his last deployment, and he was getting ready to retire.

Chapman fought valiantly after being abandoned on mountain in Afghanistan.
Under heavy fire and shot at least 12 times, Chapman killed insurgent fighters to save an inbound helicopter.

On Memorial Day, I remember my Uncle Connie. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross twice in the aftermath of D-Day as part of a bomber crew.
He was recalled to fly in Korea, and was shot down over North Korea in 1952. Connie was never seen again.
He was 30 years old.

On Memorial Day, I remember Delta Force operator Joshua Wheeler. He was killed during a 2015 raid to rescue 70 prisoners from ISIS in Iraq.
When the assault stalled, Wheeler led the way through the breach and died.

On Memorial Day, I remember Delta Force snipers Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart.
During Black Hawk Down, they inserted into a crash site to save pilot Mike Durant.
Both men died after a prolonged gunfight that saved Durant’s life. Both earned the Medal of Honor.

John Luther: KIA in WWII in the Pacific- Bronze Star
Connie Guilfoyle: KIA in Korea after serving in WWII - Multiple Distinguished Flying Crosses and Air Medals. Survived getting shot down in WWII and successfully evaded capture.
Raise a toast to them and everyone else who made the ultimate sacrifice. They did it because they want you to be here living a great life.
