Personally I like that things are increasingly - explicitly - out in the open in terms of the cultural and political preference all these broadcast channels. We have long known that the people calling the shots at Channel 4, ITV, the BBC and post-Murdoch era Sky and Sky News all have agendas. I also think the last thing Nigel or Kemi should now be doing is chasing this god-awful show for an invite. I think in fact there would be electoral cachet in turning down an invite from Gogglebox now.
It’s almost as if @labourpress have said “what if we treated being PM like it’s a reality TV show” On the other hand being impartial…. @Channel4 Are other leaders invited or is it just helping-Labour-only invite?

EXCLUSIVE: Leaked Home Office counter-terrorism documents link “nostalgia for traditionalism” and fears over immigration, liberalism and multiculturalism to “Christian extremism”. Officials propose working with churches to promote “theological resilience” against the use of Christian teachings to justify hatred or violence. I obtained dozens of pages from RICU’s report on “Christian extremism”. Among the findings: • Images of happy families in wartime, peaceful countryside and classical statues are described as a “hook” towards an extremist worldview. • Tommy Robinson’s rallies and a Christmas carol concert come under scrutiny, alongside Christian fitness groups. • “Bob from Speakers’ Corner” features, despite RICU identifying no extremist content from him. Yet the report acknowledges that the threat of violence from Christian extremists remains “low”. Jeremiah Igunnubole, UK legal counsel for ADF, says the report “suggests an institutional anti-Christian bias has taken hold in the Home Office”. stevenedginton.substack.com/…

Scientists found a way to flush Alzheimer’s plaque out of the brain in minutes. Without any surgery and drugs. Your brain has a waste-clearance network called the glymphatic system. It flushes out toxic proteins and dead cells. But it only really activates during deep, slow-wave sleep. If you don't sleep, the trash piles up. Over time, that buildup leads to cognitive decline and Alzheimer's. Until today. Researchers just published a paper proving they can manually trigger this cleaning cycle. Without you ever going to sleep. They used 40.68 MHz ultrashort waves (USW) beamed non-invasively into the brain. Within 10 minutes, the brain's fluid flow rapidly accelerated. The waves artificially synchronized the neurons into a Delta state, the exact frequency of deep sleep. This forced the brain's water channels to open and start flushing out the system. They tested it on mice with traumatic brain injuries and Alzheimer's pathology. The brain swelling dropped. The toxic proteins were cleared out. Cognitive deficits actually improved. No surgery. No massive chemical interventions. Just a frequency.

Shabana Mahmood is posting citing Fraser Nelson. Surely this is the final nail in the coffin for Mr Nelson’s credibility on the right.
Some chatter on social media would have you believe that crime is out of control. The facts tell a different story. As @frasernelson has shown in his Substack today: Violence is at its lowest level since the crime survey began in 1981. Robbery is at a record low. Crime, excluding fraud, is 78% down on its peak in 1995. And the stats show this Government is delivering on its promises too: Knife crime is down 11%. Knife murders are at their lowest level in 35 years. Thefts including phone snatching have fallen by 20% in the last year alone. But I know there is more that we must do, and we will: We’ve put more than 3,800 extra neighbourhood officers into roles, with named, contactable officers for every neighbourhood. We’re introducing the most significant reforms to policing in a generation. We are tackling rising rates of violence against women and girls through our landmark strategy. And we are tackling crimes like fraud, more prevalent in our increasingly online world, with £250 million directed to this challenge in our Fraud Strategy published this year.

This was filmed in 1973. Newly wed couples come to place flowers on Leo Tolstoy's grave. The tradition still goes on today. One day I would love to visit his estate.

Brilliant article by Juliet Samuel in The Times today. London’s City Bridge foundation, a charity commenced in the 13th century to maintain London’s bridges, is being systematically looted on a grand scale to fund Leftist causes since the City of london Corporation, its only trustee, amended its charter in 1995 to fund “other charitable purposes”. since then, inter alia: £1.2m in 2023 granted to “strengthen representation of the London’s Muslim-led charity Sector” £1m over seven years to “ build capacity in the trans and sex worker sectors”. £15m into a “climate action strategy” fund. in 2024 2025 the foundation spent £13 million on bridges and £82 million on grants. Meanwhile, Hammersmith Bridge remains …. closed.

The EU have graciously agreed to wait 6 months before sending us another massive bill for the next phase of the "EU reset" - they know when they have a sucker hooked on the line.

Some of the criticism to this is unfair. Allegiance to the country and our traditions does bind us (if it is just ethnicity, then plenty of patriots would have to be excluded). Yet, much like Christianity providing the foundations of our nation, the ethnic British are the root.
What unites us? Not ethnicity. A common commitment to the country built by former generations. And the foundation of this building - in which people of all faiths can live - is Christianity.

If this sounds oddly familiar its because its the same argument that Montesquieu and Gibbon make about the fall of the Roman Empire. It's also sheer nonsense. Victorians ruthlessly pursued the national interest throughout the 19th century, and you'll struggle to prove otherwise
Replying to @arctotherium42
After 1815, however, Britain underwent a moral revolution, away from national interest politics, towards idealism and romanticism, especially though Evangelical Christianity.

Up there with The Hobbit ("In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.") and The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader ("There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.")
One of the best opening paragraphs of a children's book from the 20th century!

I defy any parent - indeed, any sentient adult - to read @AllisonPearson's account of the Aberfan tragedy without choking up. “We gently removed the sticky black matter that clung to their hair and clothes, and washed their faces, making sure that their silky soft skin was totally clean and dry. This was important because it would enable their mums and dads to give a kiss goodbye. We lifted their limp arms in order to wash their little hands, making sure that mud was removed between each finger. It was strange to think the pen marks on their hands had been made only a couple of hours before.” telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

Prematurely phase out coal, fail to build new nuclear power stations, destroy investor confidence in the North Sea, ban shale gas, shrink the Royal Navy because you assume that freedom of navigation and the security of global sea lanes can be taken for granted, increase our reliance on China and European energy markets, and make the weather the organising principle of our power system. But let's pretend Britain is totally powerless to take control of its own destiny and that our energy security is entirely at the mercy of foreign dictators. The only reason we have to go along with this charade is because policymakers and the media are unwilling to admit to the public that they failed to understand the trade-offs involved in the so-called "energy transition". What they never told voters was that they were attempting something unprecedented in the history of energy, which has overwhelmingly been a story of ADDITION rather than substitution. Now that the wheels are finally coming off because of events, we are expected to pretend that our energy insecurity is the result of hostile amorphous external forces rather than the entirely foreseeable consequences of idealistic decisions made by our own political leaders. As with so many other grand political projects and ideological assumptions of the post-Cold War period, Net Zero is heading for the same reckoning with reality.
The new gas field isn’t going to bring down your bills. Gas is bought & sold globally, so the reality is, fossil fuels controlled by dictators have Britain in a chokehold til we fully embrace gas-free driving & heating and cut the link between electricity and gas. BUT, fwiw, getting gas locally is still the right move while we’re transitioning off it. It’s a bit cleaner and brings jobs and tax revenue to Britain.

Using Kemi’ words, “leaving the ECHR isn’t a silver bullet.” You also need to repeal the Human Rights Act, change asylum law, create a Deportation Command, expand detention, charter deportation flights & sanction countries refusing to take back their nationals. Reform’s plan..
