🚫 Good collateral can't make up for poor cash flow. Because collateral isn't a source of repayment. It's an emergency exit. As long as a business operates normally, it repays interest and principal from its cash flow: revenue → expenses → free cash → payments to investors. If cash flow is weak, payments may be delayed. That's when we have to turn to the collateral: — the asset must be legally seized; — a buyer must be found; — it may have to be sold at a discount; — time and money must be spent on the liquidation process; — any other claims on the asset must be taken into account. Equipment might be valued at $1 million on a balance sheet, but in a forced sale, the market might only offer $600,000–$700,000. That's why we evaluate a deal in this order: First, we determine whether the business can make payments from its operating cash flow. Then, we assess how much the collateral could realistically recover if that cash flow dries up. Good collateral helps reduce losses in a worst-case scenario. But it can't turn a weak business into a successful one.

How do we know whether a business will be able to repay a loan? We just look at these things 👇 — how much the business earns; — what its fixed costs are; — whether it has any other debts; — if so, how much it already spends on repaying them; — how stable its revenue is; — and what happens to its cash flow during slower months. If a company is profitable but all its cash flow is already going toward rent, payroll, taxes, and existing loan repayments, we won't list it on our platform. So, whenever we start due diligence, our main concern is whether a business has enough money to repay a loan from us.
