[EC WAITHOOD ACTION] 🖤💛✊🏾 Today, Equal Education members and young people took to the streets from the Bisho Massacre Memorial to the Office of the Premier to march against youth unemployment. Their message was clear: “Our futures cannot wait!” Young people are tired of waiting for jobs, for opportunities, for accountability. Comrades led a peaceful and powerful march, sharing their lived experiences. As expected, Premier @OscarMabuyane was absent and sent a junior representative from his office proving once again that youth unemployment is not a priority for him, even though the memorandum was sent a days before the action. His representative accepted the memorandum and promised to respond to the Eastern Cape unemployed youth within 60 days. Aluta Continua! ✊🏾 The struggle continues until youth unemployment is history. #WaithoodAction #YouthUnemployment

[Media Alert]🚨Eastern Cape WAITHOOD ACTION‼️ 🖇️: equaleducation.s3.eu-central… Tomorrow we march against youth unemployment! Young people are tired of waiting. We demand accountability and action NOW! 🖤💛 #WaithoodAction

[Transport Reduction] 🚌⚠️Community members are against the scholar transport cut. In February, @DBE_KZN announced it would cut scholar transport buses from Term 3 due to budget shortfalls. After intervention by @EElawcentre on behalf of EE, the cut was pushed to end-September, but 5 schools we organise will still be affected. Parents and community members have made it clear, they reject this cut. For learners in deep rural KZN, scholar transport is not a luxury, it is the difference between getting to school and dropping out. We stand with them. No learner should be left behind because the government failed to budget. Here are Siphiwe's concerns as someone working directly with the affected schools in KZN: #LongWalkToSchool #ScholarTransport

[Community Engagement] 🖤💛As build-up to the EC March Today, comrades in the Eastern Cape are on the ground in Dimbaza, engaging young people ahead of our upcoming march. Dimbaza established in 1967 as a dumping ground of apartheid forced removals still bears the scars of a system designed to exclude and dispossess. Today, young people here are speaking about a new face of the same exclusion: youth unemployment, precarious work, and being locked out of economic activity. We are going to the streets because this system is not working for young people. #RoadToECMarch #Dimbaza #YouthUnemployment

[Transport Month] 🚍Transport Month should mean safer, reliable journeys to school, not fewer buses. In Nquthu, KZN, learners already walk up to 24km a day. Now, cuts to scholar transport threaten to send them back onto dangerous, long roads. #TransportMonth #LongWalkToSchool #ScholarTransport

[Pre-MTBPS OP-ED ] 📑✍️Our researcher Mahfouz Raffee asks: How will Godongwana’s mini-budget deliver for schools? R140bn national backlog. R72.3bn in EC alone. Yet EC has lost R1.3bn to budget cuts since 2015. Shifting funds away from schools that need it most is not fiscal discipline it's sidelining learners. [EC Waithood Action] First PSY Action 🖤💛✊🏾 43.8% youth unemployment. Millions of young people with no job, no education, no training. Government cuts education funding, goes silent on the R15 BILLION NSFAS shortfall, and abandons BEEI for 2027. This is betrayal. Enough is enough‼️ On 29 October 2026 @11:00, we march from Bisho Massacre Memorial to demand accountability. Our FIRST EC Post-School Youth Action - because our struggle doesn't end at matric. For jobs, for education, for our future. Come out in your numbers! #WaithoodAction #FundOurFutures #PSYAction

[Post MTBPS media statement] 📑✍️ Empty promises as bleak picture for education funding continues. 🔗: equaleducation.s3.eu-central… The MTBPS offers scarce relief for learners, cuts R306m from student housing and R735m from school infrastructure, and is silent on the R15bn NSFAS shortfall. Per-learner funding will decline, while 43.8% of young people are unemployed and 10m are NEET. We reject a budget that neglects the future of our country. #MTBPS2026 #FundOurFutures #StopAusterity #NoToAusterity #Budget2026 #EndBudgetCuts

[WATCH] Our General Secretary Mothlabane in Cape Town today: "We reject a budget that has continued to deprive the education of our learners." As Minister Enoch Godongwana delivers the MTBPS in Parliament, we are in the streets demanding a People's Budget. In 2026, learners are still learning in overcrowded classes, still using pit toilets, and still walking long dangerous roads to school. The education budget is still not enough. We are demanding: -An increase in funding per learner -An increase in school infrastructure budget for all Provinces. #FundOurFutures #StopAusterity #NoToAusterity #Budget2026 #EndBudgetCuts
