Got weekly downloads down from 32M to 15M. Probably still too many to spam everyone with a "deprecated" warning for now.

Merged. github.com/googleapis/google… Except retry-request is also deprecated. Rabbit hole...

How often do you rewrite your blog? Because agents?

So, with nobody reading code anymore, what are you (aka your agent) writing in? Python? Rust? Go? Wasm?

Created a "daily brief" agent to test something. Now I'm getting daily spam emails from myself and don't remember where I configured the agent. 😅😭 Agents, can you please add an "unsubscribe" button to any auto-generated emails.

Ladies and Gentleman, Gemini 4.

ALT Excited Big Day GIF by Rosanna Pansino

Today we are rolling out Gemini 4 Argon globally in the Gemini API, to Pro + Ultra in Gemini App, and Ultra subs in Antigravity! Argon is a huge step forward for Gemini, and a labor of love. This model has been battle tested by over 100,000 people at Google over the last month, with so much new innovation, ambition, and hard work baked into this release. The team has been heads down over the last 6 months working to make this possible across the stack (research, infra, safety, eng, etc). We rolled the model out to cyber defenders as part of our fairwind program and early access customers over the last 2 weeks, it has been amazing to see and talk to folks who are now using this model daily. Seeing the models writing capability, raw knowledge and persistence for coding, paired with new features like 1M token output when the model needs to work more has gotten me even more excited about our path ahead. This is just the start of the Gemini 4 era. As you saw with 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, and 3.8 Flash, our iteration speed with Gemini is fast : ) Now with Gemini 4 Argon to work from, I am cannot wait to see the progress continue, and most importantly see what this new model enables for the world. This is such a special moment in the arc of technology, as millions of people everyday tackle problems they could never have thought possible before. Gemini 4 Argon was built to help you tackle the hardest problems. I have personally felt this spark with Argon and hope you do too. Onwards!!

I might be a few years late to the party, but Split View in Chrome is my biggest productivity hack. Where I used to jump back and forth between a spreadsheet (or other type of lists) and email, it's now the same window. Fran ignored every "New in Chrome" info. Don't be like Fran.

Sending emails is still hard in the age of AI. We all love a good test email!

Are all the (copyright violating) audiobooks on YouTube TTS these days? The individual words and sentences sound fine, but overall the narration is just off? Sincerely, A crime audiobook junkie who's back to Libby these days

I can use Google Sheets, but I'm slow doing anything I don't do all the time. I love how Gemini literally understands my dumb-dumb language not even using the official terms and changes it to exactly what I want

Testing if Gemini 4 can bring down the number of downloads for me (without spamming any OSS maintainers out there!) The agent is currently checking for dependents...
This tiny request library that I wrote a decade ago, and that's been deprecated for 2+ years, has 32M weekly downloads. Like what's going on!?

Well, whatever I did did NOT help in the direction I was trying to move the download number towards (towards zero).

Gemini 4 is here

ALT Calm Down Kevin Bacon GIF by Puffin Graphic Design

Lots of discussion out there about our next model(!), so I wanted to give an early look as soon as possible. Introducing Gemini 4 Argon! It shows frontier performance in complex workflows, cyber defense and software engineering. Teams are using it extensively at Google, from coding to quantum computing, great feedback. Here’s a look at the benchmarks:
