Databricks is investing in New York for the long haul. Very excited to continue growing our AI research lab in NYC, now one of the largest in the city!
New York is becoming one of Databricks’ biggest AI hubs. 🗽 We’re expanding at 5 Bryant Park to ~120,000 square feet across five floors, including a dedicated Engineering and Research floor. With teams building technologies behind Genie, Unity Gateway and CustomerLake, our momentum in NYC is only growing.

🎉 Introducing Databricks AI Decide: make fast decisions on your governed data Following the TypeSafe AI Jev launch, we’ve seen increasing demand for a fast, low-cost API that turns raw text into structured decisions. However, many of our enterprise customers are unable to use Jev due to data privacy and access concerns. AI Decide is our enterprise-grade function for fast decisions on customer’s governed data. It is supported for batch use cases like processing millions of documents with SQL and for realtime applications like model routing through our REST API. Starting early next week, customers will also be able to govern permissions on the ai_decide function through Databricks Unity Gateway. A big shoutout to @mattydtweetz @ivanzhouyq @nihit_desai @hanlintang for getting this new function launched in less than a week!

We found that improving data agent quality also improves efficiency. Sometimes more is less: agents that take long, exploratory random walks are often less likely to arrive at the right answer. We put Genie Code head-to-head against three leading general-purpose coding agents on 400+ real user data tasks. Result below 👇
New research from Databricks shows that data agents can improve accuracy and lower cost at the same time. We evaluated Genie Code against three leading general-purpose coding agents on 401 tasks distilled from real internal usage. Each agent used their own harness, the latest models from leading frontier labs, Databricks MCP, and had the same 20-minute task budget. Genie Code was both the most accurate agent we tested and the cheapest, delivering a correct answer at less than half the cost of other agents. Genie Code achieved the highest accuracy at 76.6%, and the lowest mean cost at $0.55 per task. The advantage came from context. Semantic search, persistent memory, and workspace understanding helped Genie Code avoid the inefficient exploration that drove more errors, timeouts, and higher costs for general coding agents. databricks.com/blog/why-fron…
