I mean, with everyone switching their perfectly fine declarative configs into Lua and forcing their users to learn an ugly programming language, why shouldn't this be acceptable too?
it’s so over for software engineers I just rewrote my dotfiles in Rust

I really hate the Zig syntax on these things (from worst to still bad): - Multiline string literals - comptime keyword (instead of a symbol) - the vertical bars on for loops | capture_values | - switch branch => operator - array literal declarations

Hey @ThreeIreland, you are filtering or blocking zigtools.org/. Only way to access is from outside your network. The domain resolves correctly to Cloudfare IPV4 addresses 104.21.40.193 and 172.67.188.67. And traceroute reaches them through your network. #ziglang

Here's an elementary school exam question: If US did a nuclear strike on Iran, wouldn't that mean Iran would be now legitimized to pursue a nuclear defense program? How many 9 year olds you think would ace the exam? Bonus points to who says "and the rest of the world too".

It's incredible to witness how much Israeli politics underpins the United States electoral process. Talk about external influence. Are you guys sure you are the land of freedom? Hey, sorry for the question. But it sure doesn't look good when looking in from the outside, America!

I guess american exceptionalism is so strong, they are the only country in the world proud that a foreign country will dictate what general elections should be about: Pro-Israel vs Anti-Israel.

Aren't AI service providers great? They have full control over the means of production. And if you don't use it, you are a loser, and you are ngmi. Let's all have a show of hands for Anthropic making this a better world!
Claude couldn't take the abuse.

I'm hereby starting a petition to fund a special place in hell for "people with opinions". Please donate. It's a hole in the ground with exit arrows pointing at all four walls. From above, a recording on a loop of all the stupid opinions that got them stuck in this hole.
Of all the stupid things the human race has ever done, this was probably the stupidest.

I don't think they ever taught touch-typing in European middle schools. Not me in the 80s, and not my millenial son and gen Z daughter. I was only taught to touch type in the army. And then quickly forgot it.
No one’s a faster typer than an elder millennial who took a keyboard class in middle school.

The influencer campaign by Framework sickens me down to my stomach. These large numbers of free laptops in the current market are a slap in the face of struggling consumers facing an overpriced laptop brand.

And never results in proper technical reviews of the laptop. It's always mindless superficial chatter about how great they are and how well they perform. It's vapid marketing nonsense to drive hype. That Framework chose this path is heartbreaking.

My first Framework laptop was the 13, 2nd gen. I bought it when it was easier to believe in a brand breaking free from the traditional blackbox laptops with the consumer at the forefront. Four years later, it is really hard to look at this brand seriously and with sympathy.

He was also a film and stage actor. Particularly impressive on stage. But none of that matters, I guess... Rest in peace Picard. You will be properly remembered. We are all here waiting for Godot.
Jean-Luc Picard remains the single most compelling vision of progressive politics I am familiar with — secular, rational, compassionate, egalitarian; a believer in progress & abundance but also duty, hard work, and a constant battle for self-improvement and improving the world.

Let me just grab a lifetime of supplies while we wait for a black belt in spin to reconsider his life choices.
Replying to @unclebobmartin
“Your job is to help the LLM write better code faster.” Strange: I thought the job of a software engineer was to bring value to stakeholders in an enduring, economically sustainable, and ethical fashion. I suggest you reconsider your life choices, Bob.

So AI devs are not getting in the job marketplace? Color me surprised. Sorry Debbie. It sucks. I'm not one to laugh at someone losing a job opportunity. But take a step back and consider if you really want to throw away all your 10+ years of training for the convenience of AI.
Got turned down for a DevRel job. I didn't meet the technical bar on the coding challenge. Now I feel stupid. I've won developer awards and worked in DevRel for over 8 years, yet in interviews I come across as not technical, and I don't know how to fix that. Im so annoyed with myself.

I see a lot of my replies to posts disappearing from the thread view. The reply counter still acknowledges them, but the only way I can see my own reply to other people posts that disappear like this is by going to my profile. What's going on? They haven't been hidden by the OP either. Their hidden replies list is empty.

So, I gave @bluesky a shot for a week. But let me tell you, it's a complete graveyard for tech and software development. After 4 years, its #feeds feature has turned into a spammy promo mailbox. You'll be assaulted by product announcements if you add any one of those feeds. It's very hard to find anyone interesting unless they happen to drop on your regular feed. But the problem with that is the whole place is now almost entirely a political social media service, and no one uses Bluesky except to vent their political grievances. Starter packs can't be found after you created your account either. Or so it seems. So, I can't even comb through other people's following suggestions. It's ironic that the offshoot of Tweeter and the alternative to X turned into a platform both less topic diverse than tweeter ever was and more politically oriented than X can ever be. Crossed off.
