Yesterday, FSD Uganda and @ThefiaU launched AML/CFT/CPF Guidelines and Compliance Assessment Toolkits for Tier IV financial institutions and FinTechs.
The tools help institutions assess their exposure to financial crime, review existing controls and identify gaps that need attention.

As FSD Uganda CEO @jzkwebiiha emphasised, proportionality isn't about lowering standards. It's about matching the response to the risk.

“It’s important for us to look at redress as preventive, not something that we are doing after the fact.”
For customers, trust also depends on what happens when something goes wrong. Can they report fraud easily? Will anyone respond? How quickly can they expect a resolution?
Effective redress helps protect confidence in digital finance.

But how prepared are financial institutions to prevent and respond to fraud?
FSD Uganda's 2024 Cyber and Fraud Risk Landscape Assessment identified just 264 qualified cybersecurity and fraud professionals across Uganda's commercial financial institutions, less than 10% of estimated need.
The findings point to a capacity gap that institutions must address as digital finance expands.

NIRA extends its appreciation to Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSD Uganda) for its participation and contribution to the My Identity Expo and Symposium.
@fsduganda has been an important partner in Uganda’s digital identity and financial-inclusion journey, working with the @BOU_Official, @ugbankers and NIRA on the electronic Know-Your-Customer (e-KYC) initiative.
The e-KYC platform enables supervised financial institutions to verify customer identities in real time using the NIN, reducing the time required for customer onboarding while helping lower the risk of fraudulent identities.
FSD Uganda’s participation at the #MyIdentityExpoAndSymposium26 therefore brought valuable experience to the Expo’s conversation on how trusted identity can open doors to formal financial services, particularly for people who have traditionally been underserved by the financial system.
