author of CHANGEOVER, on the rise of Carlos Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner; "thoughtful, elegantly written, and frequently very funny" - @nybooks

my book, CHANGEOVER, will be out this summer. read about Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, the end of the Big 3, and pretty much any stray thought about tennis still rattling around my skull

Only one Sincaraz match in 2026 and it was that Monte-Carlo final, devastating. We must, once again, remember the good times: simonandschuster.com/books/C…
"For a guy who wasn’t getting any free points, who was grinding away in both service and return games alike, trying to win by virtue of raw baseline meritocracy, Nishikori took his career about as far as his physical tools could take him." @girinathan

TONIGHT: @DefectorMedia staff writer & “Changeover” author @GiriNathan chats with Michael Kosta about the spectacle around the U.S. Open and the state of professional tennis
I never cared about tennis before this year but now am obsessed with the U.S. open thanks to this writer whose book I got my wife for her bday. the poetry, the intensity, the blistering humanity of these players... I feel like I’m trapped in a tennis themed area of the Backrooms

Arthur Ashe is so unbelievably loud it’s insane. I started chatting w my section usher and he said that the amount of people emailing the @usopen to tell them to tell people to stfu is unprecedented and he’s never heard it this loud before in his 25 years of working there.
yeah acoustics of closed roof definitely worsens this. probably a bigger factor than the changing composition of the crowd though that is also a factor
I think the main reason its worse this year is that the roof is now always closed. When I was courtside for Shelton on Monday night it was just unbelievably loud
