Short-term profit-taking has weighed on bitcoin:native. Two weeks ago we flagged short-term holders in profit sending the largest share of exchange inflows in a year. This selling has weighed on price since. The flow has now eased back to its average yearly level.

Altcoin leverage is still running hot. Prices have pulled back since leverage peaked earlier this month, yet over 40% of large caps still sit near their highest leverage of the year. In mid caps, that share is at a yearly high. A deeper drop would put many longs at risk.

Bitcoin trades near $82k after a quiet week that held above $80k. The selling behind the early October slide eased, but spot and ETF buyers have not returned, while capital keeps moving into newer hands on-chain. Read the latest Market Pulse 👇 glassno.de/4ei5L8a

Weekend selling has hit altcoins hard. As fear from equities spills into crypto, the typical altcoin is down over 5%. If the weekend closes like this it would be the largest weekend drop since April. Since the bitcoin:native low in June, buying Friday and selling Sunday was profitable.

bitcoin:native sellers capitulated again yesterday. Every burst of loss selling came right at a local bottom: early August, mid-August and mid-September. Profit taking has slowed since the September high. If the pattern holds, yesterday's selling just above $80k would mark the floor.

Buyers kept refilling the bitcoin:native book today. The low timeframe view shows that the large bids that sat at $80k for the last week were filled and new large bids were placed, pushing price up systematically. Now we see the support level under $80k weakening again.

Bitcoin moved into an early recovery in Q3, even as the Fed resumed tightening. Our Q4 2026 Charting Crypto report with @CoinbaseInsto reads the data behind it. Its outlook: constructive, with reasons for near-term caution. Download the report: glassno.de/4s56RtH
What are macro and onchain data signaling for BTC in the weeks ahead? We screened 500+ indicators for clues and found that macro readings skew slightly positive while onchain readings lean more clearly lower. Our takeaway: Near-term consolidation is more likely than trend reversal.

bitcoin:native is sitting on support. However, underneath it a large cluster of long liquidations will be triggered. Another cluster sits around $75k. Overhead, shorts liquidations have piled up above $85k all week. The lower clusters currently appear more fragile than those above.

bitcoin:native is stuck under key cost basis levels. The buyers of the past two years break even above $88K, and the ETFs are net sellers again. The ETF cost basis near $81.5K has held twice so far. More on liquidation levels, macro and altcoins in this week's Week On-chain 👇
BTC is holding the ETF cost basis. That line sits near $81.5K, and every daily close for the last 3 weeks has held above it. A large block of bids waits just below. A break under this level could set off forced selling and deepen the drop.

The cost basis of investors that bought the top still caps BTC's upside. Holders who bought 1 to 2 years ago sold heavily as bitcoin:native rallied toward $88k, where the 6 to 12 month group breaks even. Price stalled just under it. That selling has since slowed considerably.
bitcoin:native has bounced off the ETF cost basis. Price spent most of this year below that level, and the May rally stalled right under it. It has now held twice as support around $81.5k. Below it, the next major level is the True Market Mean at $77.5k.

Most #BTC with a visible public key is exposed through address reuse, and that part has been growing. The balance in reused addresses rose from 3.79M to 4.33M BTC over the past year, and now covers 21.5% of circulating supply.
Replying to @n3ocortex
Address reuse accounts for 4.33M BTC: the address has already spent, so its key is public. Moving those coins to a fresh address ends the exposure. The other 1.94M BTC are exposed by script type: 1.71M in P2PK, of which 1.10M is attributed to Satoshi, and 222K in Taproot. 2/6

Existing holders have been carrying this bitcoin:native rally. The realized cap keeps climbing while new money from ETFs, stablecoins and treasuries is dropping. The 2024 and 2025 rallies showed the same gap, but on far larger inflows. A pickup in new money would put real demand behind BTC.

Bitcoin is moving into support. After a rejection from the sell wall at $86.5K, bitcoin:native has slid toward multiple large buy orders. The largest sits around $81k. These bids have been patiently waiting and will help to dampen downside.

6.26M #BTC, or 31.2% of supply, sits behind a public key that is already visible on-chain. At least that much would have to move in a migration to addresses whose keys are still hidden behind a hash. The share is up from 24.8% in early 2021 and back at 2016 levels. 🧵 1/6
Today I call upon the blockchain industry to calmly begin planning for "bunker mode". My personal recommendation is to set in motion a controlled mass migration of assets to fresh addresses, i.e. addresses whose pubkeys remain hidden behind a hash. Holders, starting with large and sophisticated ones, should consider moving the bulk of their funds to addresses that have never signed a transaction. And when they do sign one, they should also move remaining funds to a new address (possibly generated from the same seed phrase). Don't rush. While I believe there is cause for action a rushed migration would do more harm than good. Don't panic either. Moving assets to protected addresses is a simple, preventative step which does not require new cryptography or new wallets. IMO it is now reasonable to brace for the possibility that ECDSA breaks before qday, in the worst case in months not years. By "break" I mean fast private key recovery (e.g. in one week) on available hardware (e.g. a large GPU cluster). Recent days have been humbling for human mathematical intuition. Long-held, unquestioned hypotheses have fallen. This includes the n log(n) bound for integer multiplication and the 3SUM conjecture. In hindsight, May's unexpected disproof of the Erdős unit distance conjecture was our warning shot. Yesterday's OpenAI drop made it clear that mathematical superintelligence is upon us. They say there are weeks where decades happen. We are about to live through weeks where centuries of mathematical progress happen. Could our magic 64-byte ECDSA signatures be too good to be true? Was it just security through obscurity all this time? Elliptic curves feel especially vulnerable to superintelligence. Curves carry rich structure, with room for fancy tricks like Schoof, Frobenius, pairings. (By contrast, hashes are designed to minimise algebraic structure.) Separately, as Ewin Tang can attest, an efficient quantum algorithm sometimes foreshadows an efficient classical one. We should be open to the possibility of a classical counterpart to Shor that breaks elliptic curves and RSA at once. Also noteworthy is the striking under-representation of cryptographic breakthroughs among the 722 mathematical results OpenAI published. I've witnessed first-hand the US government censoring academic quantum cryptanalysis results. Backroom interventionism is my base case. I urge large, sophisticated actors to lead by example. Project11's "risq list" (bitcoin-risq-list.projecteleven[.]com) is a great tracker of exposed BTC pubkeys. Binance, Bitbank, Robinhood, Bitfinex, and Tether have an opportunity to harden their cold storage. Next month I'll address institutions in London in a live Q&A (forum.ethereuminstitutional[.]org/london-2026). Again, please do not rush. Wallets holding under 50 BTC enjoy partial cover from "Satoshi's shield", i.e. his 20K exposed addresses that hold 50 BTC each. Load-bearing signers like oracles and L2 security councils should consider rotating ECDSA pubkeys with every signed message and/or multi-signing with a hash-based schemes like SPHINCS. Exiting bunker mode safely will require post-AI cryptography. My inclination is to go all-in on hash-based cryptography and avoid structured mathematical assumptions entirely, whether from curves, lattices, or isogenies. A single battle-tested hash (e.g. from the SHA or BLAKE families) yields plausible post-AI security. The Ethereum roadmap on strawmap[.]org fully embraces hash-based cryptography with end-to-end formal verification as a response to the quantum threat. Those timelines must now be revisited and accelerated in light of mathematical superintelligence. I'll be pushing for maximum defensive acceleration.
