The 4th Gordon Research Conference & Seminar on Venom Evolution, Function and Biomedical Applications - 17-22 May, 2026! #Barcelona#GRCVenom26#GRSVenom26
Dr. Manjunatha Kini is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, and in the Department of Pharmacology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, at the National University of Singapore @NUSingapore
One of his recent publications reports the classification of snake three-finger toxins into 150 distinct subgroups, providing a foundation for the rational design of potent and selective ligands targeting diverse receptors, ion channels, and enzymes: mdpi.com/1422-0067/26/18/879…
🚀 Calling all Venom early career researchers - GRS Oral abstract deadline week 🚀
Only abstracts received by the 8th February can be considered for a talk at the GRS #ECR seminar. Get your applications and abstracts in asap if you'd like to be considered for this opportunity.
🧬 Oral abstract deadline coming up for the Venom Evolution, Function & Biomedical Applications GRS (2026)! 🧬grc.org/venom-evolution-func…
A great opportunity for ECRs across all aspects of the venom field to come together, share work, & build collaborations.
Apply by 8th Feb 2026!
Presenting in our Toxin Structure and Function session on Thursday morning is Dr Michelle Yap, a Senior Lecturer and Program Director of Medical Bioscience at Monash University Malaysia, specialising in Toxin pharmacology and toxicology.
In addition to her research, she serves as a guest editor for Topic Collections related to venom & toxin research at @FrontiersIn Pharmacology & @JoVEJournal. She also engages with an international network, including the Snakebite Community Engagement Network & @EUVENAction.
Her recent work advances novel aptamer-based strategies to neutralise cobra venom cytotoxins, uncovering new molecular targets & therapeutic approaches to mitigate venom-induced cytotoxicity (link.springer.com/article/10…, sciencedirect.com/science/ar…).
Dr Julien Slagboom is an analytical chemist and venom researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His research focuses on unravelling the molecular complexity of snake venoms using high-throughput advanced analytical and biochemical approaches.
He is currently also developing miniaturized analytical and biochemical platforms to enable venom analysis from species that produce only limited quantities of venom.
🚀The #GRCVenom26 programme is now live! 🚀
From venom evolution & ecology to genomics, therapeutics & clinical impact - we have an outstanding line up of speakers & topics across disciplines. 💡🔥🕷️🦂🐍🪼🐌🐜

Also joining us as a speaker at #GRCVenom2026 is Dr Jorunn Bos, a group leader at the Division of Plant Sciences, @dundeeuni , and the @JamesHuttonInst (joint appointment).
Jorunn's recent work showed that an aphid effector pair, co-located in aphid genomes, encodes proteins that form a complex with both host proteins and also one another, pointing to potential effector cooperation & further complexity at the plant-aphid interaction interface.
