Grand Theft Auto was not born in a New York boardroom. It was born in Dundee, Scotland, and one of the people who created it was Mike Dailly ( @mdf200 ) . DMA Design was founded in the late 80s by David Jones alongside Dailly, Russell Kay and Steve Hammond, all from the same amateur computer club. Dailly is widely described as the studio's first employee and a Co-founder. That studio is now Rockstar North. @mdf200 designed the original prototype of Grand Theft Auto: a top-down view of a city that actually felt alive. He was shooting prototype footage as early as 1994, before the project even officially began in April 1995, and years before anyone knew what it would become. The game he helped build shipped with three cities: Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City. Thirty years later they are still the map of the entire franchise The game shipped on 28 November 1997, and the rest is the biggest franchise in gaming. Nearly thirty years later, GTA 6 is taking us back to Vice City. One of the three cities from the game he helped build in Dundee. Worth remembering who was actually in the room.

Will they even bother giving out review copies? It's gonna be so huge, they could just ignore them and make reviewers buy it! And they would!! solana:2wMTr4ZttVr5tmS4wLStee59wi8f9QQfMtT2Hoispump #GTAVI #GTA6 #GTA
GTA 6 review copies are expected to be extremely limited and controlled, with ex-IGN employees stating they don't even know anyone who's getting one. This is speculation on my part, but we may see review copies only sent to outlets that don't traditionally have a gaming audience, as GTA 6's marketing so far has been going after non-gamers and casual players.

Live action #GTAVI? The story has always been the thing in #GTA, would it make a good movie? solana:2wMTr4ZttVr5tmS4wLStee59wi8f9QQfMtT2Hoispump #GTA6
🚨 ROCKSTAR GAMES MIGHT BE PREPARING A LIVE-ACTION GTA 6 CAMPAIGN! 🎬🌴 With Grand Theft Auto VI scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, Rockstar’s marketing push is entering its final stretch — and something interesting is happening in Miami! 🎥 A film crew has been spotted shooting a convoy of GTA VI-inspired cars on closed-off Miami streets, with camera rigs and drones capturing the action. The vehicles reportedly feature Vice City-style designs and license plates, bringing the game’s fictional world into real life. 🚘 The cars were created in collaboration with West Coast Customs, the custom-car company that previously built the iconic blue Banshee for GTA V’s promotional campaign. 👀 Could this be a new live-action GTA VI advertisement? And imagine if Manni L. Perez and Dylan Rourke joined the campaign to bring Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval to life! With Rockstar already transforming Miami with Vice City branding, fictional advertisements, custom cars and promotional installations, a live-action campaign would be the perfect way to take the hype to another level. However, Rockstar hasn’t confirmed that the filming is for a live-action GTA VI trailer. Reports suggest it could instead be promotional content connected to the Miami Heat’s upcoming “A Night in Vice City” event. 🔥 Could we see Jason and Lucia in live action before launch? #GTA6 #GTAVI #RockstarGames #ViceCity #WestCoastCustoms #GrandTheftAutoVI

Amazing back story on #GTA3 from one of the creators. solana:2wMTr4ZttVr5tmS4wLStee59wi8f9QQfMtT2Hoispump #GTA
25 years ago, on October 22, 2001, Grand Theft Auto III was released. This is the team that made it. (I'm second from the right) Here's what I remember about making it. For most of development, GTA3 was in a sorry state. It crashed frequently, the frame rate was terrible and the map was full of holes. Only in the last six months did everything come together. For the longest time, it looked like the frame rate was going to be 20 fps. Only in the final months did we manage to hit 30. In 1999, DMA Design, based in Dundee, Scotland, was going through some changes. The company had recently been bought by Take-Two Interactive, and a satellite office had opened in Edinburgh. Space Station Silicon Valley for the N64 had been finished in 1998, but there was no new project lined up. Leslie Benzies and Aaron Garbut started working on GTA3. Unprompted. Meanwhile, the original GTA1 and GTA2 team had started work on GTA2.5, set in Miami. It was called 2.5 because it used the 2.5D (isometric) perspective. In March 2000, the Dundee office was closed and GTA2.5 was cancelled. Take-Two/Rockstar gave GTA3 the green light. Everything was written from scratch. Only two people worked on both GTA2 and GTA3, and no code or art from GTA2 was reused. The way we worked was organic. People would come up with ideas for missions and we'd just try them. If they were fun, they were in. The story was secondary. In fact, the opening plot involving Catalina trying to kill Claude was added well into development. Leslie Benzies (the producer) plastered a wall in the boardroom with Post-it notes. They were yellow, green and pink, representing missions, contacts and locations. Missions were moved around all the time, often handed from one contact to another. Only once the voice acting was recorded were these things set in stone. You sometimes come across locations on the map that are more detailed than you'd expect. Chances are there used to be a mission contact there that got moved elsewhere. Working on GTA3 was a lot of fun. Every day there was something new going in. A new mission, radio station, car, pedestrian, building or whatever. The game was growing at an incredible rate. Other than the multiplayer mode we did some work on, I can’t remember a lot of wastage. Although everybody worked hard, I don't remember many people doing crazy hours. On the rare occasions I was in over the weekend, there were usually only one or two others. Even during crunch time, most people left the office around 9 or 10 in the evening. I always thought it was better to work eight focused hours than spend your life in the office. Although we liked the game, it wasn't at all clear that it would be a hit. GTA3 had a disappointing showing at E3 in May 2001. Most people weren't interested, and those who were thought it was too violent. It had an OK launch, but sales never tapered off. Our office was in Leith, Edinburgh. It was a fairly run-down neighbourhood at the time. Just a couple of years before we arrived, J.K. Rowling had been writing the first Harry Potter in that very same neighbourhood. The thing I remember most is the camaraderie. In a small team, everybody relies on each other and everybody has a lot of input. Most of us were young and had only recently moved to Edinburgh. We went to the pub together. It felt like a group of friends who happened to be working on a project together. nitter.siddz.com/ObbeVermeij/status/178… nitter.siddz.com/ObbeVermeij/status/175… nitter.siddz.com/ObbeVermeij/status/187… nitter.siddz.com/ObbeVermeij/status/182… nitter.siddz.com/ObbeVermeij/status/179…

Crazy to see where it all started. Mike Dailly was there at the beginning, creating the first prototype that would eventually help shape GTA into what it is today. 30+ years later, we’re about to see GTA 6.
With #GTA6 nearing launch, it's worth remembering where it all started. This first image spawned the first prototype, which in turn helped spawn the second. And the rest as they say.... is history. You can see a printout of this image, just over my shoulder. This picture was taken while making the prototypes, sometime in 1994. #GTA @gtacommunitysol solana:2wMTr4ZttVr5tmS4wLStee59wi8f9QQfMtT2Hoispump

The discord group is finally here! We apologise that it took longer than expected, we had to code a custom discord bot to make it only accessible to $GTA holders. Here is the link to the discord: discord.gg/rQv3mWUJZk You will need to hold at least 50K $GTA to be able to join. Mike will join the group tomorrow when he wakes up. Verification is simple. You don't need to connect your wallet anywhere (be aware of scams!). When you join, the bot will generate you a wallet address, then you have to send exactly 1 $GTA token and click verify. That's it, the bot will then give you your role. Please send exactly 1 GTA. If you accidentally send more, type in the discord and we will get it back to you.
