In Rhode Island, the Fair Market Rent for a two-bedroom apartment is $1,649. In order to afford this level of rent and utilities - without paying more than a third of income on housing - a household must earn $5,496 monthly or $65,954 annually.
This translates into an hourly Housing Wage of $31.71, according to this year's Out of Reach report, released yesterday by the @NLIHC. The average renter in R.I. earns just $18.22/hour.
