Meet the validation engine behind every Humyn Labs dataset. Built by our Director of Data, @MaiDiab_ , and her research team, it runs every hour of egocentric footage through six stages, from calibration to final file check, before it’s allowed anywhere near a model. On a 1,000-hour sample, 647.8 hours came out as verified training data. 352.2 hours were stopped, each quarantined with a logged reason. The surprise: half of what we rejected wasn’t broken. 177.9 hours were technically clean but had no manipulation signal, with hands out of view, idle, or too short to use. File-level checks would have passed all of it. In physical AI, data that only looks right teaches the wrong motion. So the bar is simple: if we can’t show an hour is right, it doesn’t ship.

This is what Bengaluru’s physical AI scene looks like in one room. Last Saturday, 30+ researchers and engineers joined us to work through one question: why does egocentric hand tracking break in the wild? They challenged each other’s assumptions, disagreed openly and took the problem further together than any one of them could have alone. We’re building more rooms like this, where top minds in physical AI share their work, debate open problems and build together. @ishank20 @manishdiesel

Yesterday we hosted our first closed-door research session in Bengaluru. 30+ researchers from ARTPARK (IISc), Samsung R&D, TCS Research, Siemens, Lossfunk and robotics startups joined us for the evening. One question: Why does egocentric hand tracking break in the wild? We started from HaWoR (CVPR 2025), looked at real failure cases from our data, and worked through open questions together. Lots of discussion, with real takeaways. We're writing up what the room agreed on into a report, and will share it soon. The idea is simple: get the right people in one room, sharing what's working and what isn't. More sessions, more cities, more events coming. Thanks to everyone who came, and to Dr. Sandeep for leading the room :)) @manishdiesel @ishank20 @aachmannnn @omjambhale3

This Saturday, our head researcher Dr. Sandeep Reddy Sabbella is leading a closed-door session at our Bangalore office on why egocentric hand tracking breaks. He's seen this problem from both ends. During his PhD at Sapienza, field data was extremely difficult to collect with environmental changes and agricultural crop cycles. Hence they built VR simulation to replicate the data that was collected for conducting experiments. At Humyn Labs, he works with first-person footage of hands cooking, folding and fixing things. Hands leave the frame, wrap around objects, and the camera never sits still. He'll share how we're tackling it. Then India's top researchers in hand pose, egocentric vision and robot learning take it from there. Sat, 24th Oct. Indiranagar. Last 5 spots remaining. Grab yours below 👇

We’re hosting a closed-door research session in Bengaluru this Saturday, with researchers from India’s top labs working on hand pose, egocentric vision and robot learning. The core question: Why does egocentric hand tracking break in the wild? Over the evening, we’ll: - Map where hand tracking fails using real cases - Check whether today’s benchmarks measure what robots actually need - Share how we’re approaching it, and learn together The session will be moderated and led by our Lead Researcher Sandeep Reddy Sabbella, PhD. What the room figures out shapes our next round of egocentric data. Sat, 24th Oct. Indiranagar. Limited to 30 researchers. Apply below 👇

Agree on the long race. The part that's hard to see from outside: holding quality flat while volume goes 10x. Most data operations try to catch problems at the end with reviewers, and they break. The winner builds quality into the pipeline, from capture to delivery.
The winning robotics data business has a much higher terminal value than investors are underwriting today. Robotics will be a long race with many twists and turns, but when the ChatGPT moment hits, the winning data player will be in a very strong strategic position to capture token value. They will have large revenue, a strong balance sheet, talent density, deployments experience, and hardware supply chain knowledge. When it comes time to blitzscale they will be amongst the players that can capture the most value. The reason this is misunderstood today is because most people are using traditional LLM data businesses as a prior for robotics data businesses and what their terminal value could be. I posit this is incorrect framing. Because the model and harness are integrated in LLMs, there is very little room for data players to play meaningfully in the token value flow in the long term. In robotics this is exactly the opposite, the model and harness (hardware) are separate, the pretraining era is just beginning, there are many more dependencies on distributors/deployers, and there is a large surface area for other players than just models to capture value. Open source will also play a larger role earlier in the robotics race, as all prior LLM learnings will be incorporated as the race is run. This also creates opportunities for long term infrastructure players. There is a massive amount of terminal value in winning robotics data and participating in the path of the industry from a position of strength. From first principles: The endgame of robotics will take place over the next decade. Empirically, today, no player has enough data, enough model intelligence, or sufficient hardware to facilitate a fast revenue takeoff in the field. No player has reasoned through the right sales motion either, which can take years to develop pilots and move to production. Serious players are correctly focused on scaling up pretraining/deep learning vs. who has the best model, deployment, or hardware today. The robotics data business takes participants on a global hunt to build data, supply chains, and hardware. Along the way it also teaches deployment and deep knowledge of SOTA model development. Winning data participants also get the first crack at the still nascent robotics RL market, which will likely be the next large revenue stream after pretraining. As they compete to win data, data players must develop incredible talent density across both Asia and the US. The winning data business will have both Asian and North American DNA. Canada 🇨🇦 encompasses an interesting cultural mixture of both of these parts of the world. Bullish Canadian Robotics Mafias, more specifically Waterloo/Toronto. So: What would constitute a strong strategic position to capture value once the ChatGPT moment of robotics hits? You need a large revenue base, a strong balance sheet, and talent density + experience across data, deployments, hardware, supply chain, and RL. The hyperscalers, the frontier labs, and the winning data player all qualify. Anyone under time pressure in what will be a long race is in a weaker strategic position in my view. Given the costs of integrated hardware+software+deployment, this would actually be most robotics-native players. They will depend on VC interest, which can be fickle.

Robots won’t have one job. They’ll have thousands. Every one of those jobs has to be learned from real people doing it, wherever the work actually happens, captured the way the robot will perceive it. You can't scrape your way there. Good conversation with @AddyCrezee.
your next friend will be a robot to get there, it has to see, hear, touch and move like us. @AddyCrezee sat down with @manishdiesel and @ishank20, co-founders of @humynlabs – the team that has filmed 1m+ first-person videos and recorded 50k+ hours of audio of how people do it. they talked about the robot age – in homes, in factories and in how we talk to machines. • "robots as companions will be ahead of general purpose humanoids that will come and do your laundry" • "car covers one use case while robots are multiple use cases" – why robots will outnumber cars • "very few people in the world would be using keyboard and mouse to communicate with machines. it's all going to be voice" • "more robotic productivity than human productivity in as early as 2035" – quoting elon musk watch full interview below
