Julien's Auctions presents Tony Bennett: The Art of Benedetto, a September 18 online auction of paintings and sketches by the legendary singer, working under his birth name, Anthony Benedetto (@itstonybennett). Bennett began drawing at age five with sidewalk chalk outside his childhood home in Queens, and he sketched or painted nearly every day for the rest of his life, often capturing the view from a hotel window while on tour. He kept his two careers deliberately separate, signing every canvas "Benedetto" so the work could stand on its own. The collection includes a self portrait of Bennett with Lady Gaga, his charcoal portrait of Dave Brubeck, a still life set in front of a window overlooking the city, a landscape of Capri, and a portrait of his wife, Susan Benedetto. Together they trace the eye of a man who studied at New York's High School of Art and Design and went on to place his paintings in the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery.
