Customer marketing is becoming so much more important. As it gets harder to build trust and get attention, everyone is looking for a halo effect from associating with another brand. The benefits to a great brand are now not just that more people will trust you and want to work with you, but also that they will want to partner with you to piggyback on your brand legitimacy. If you’re known as the brand that props up their customers in tasteful and effective ways, you’ll have a massive advantage.

The Great Lakes Megalopolis
The year is 2050. The Great Lakes Megalopolis is the most valuable region on Earth. Minneapolis – Milwaukee – Chicago – Indianapolis – Cincinnati – Detroit – Columbus – Cleveland – Pittsburgh – Toronto – Buffalo – Montreal • 20% of the world's surface fresh water • Urban centers with finance & tech hubs, and great universities • Ontario runs one of the largest nuclear fleets in the world, generating up to 60% of its electricity, with grid-scale SMRs being built ahead of schedule. Illinois leads the US in nuclear power, and Michigan is bringing reactors back online. • The region holds some of the largest untapped copper-nickel-cobalt-platinum-chromite deposits in the world, along with the gallium, indium, and graphite that China guards so jealously. • The densest industrial base in the Western Hemisphere: heavy machinery, metal refineries, steel, auto, batteries, and aerospace backed by a deep pool of suppliers/engineers/skilled trades. • Climate-resilient cities with municipal capacity that can absorb millions more.

The Rust Belt is Hardcore
Imagine being soft enough to consider comfort a necessary condition to building something. Building in the Rust Belt is reserved for the most hardcore of the hardcore.

Every day I talk to small businesses that are using vendors (e.g. for marketing, software development, etc.) that aren’t using AI, and the business is paying the price for it (i.e. they’re spending thousands of dollars on outcomes that should be ~free). At first, I thought maybe these guys were getting ripped off, and the vendor was intentionally slowing down the process. But then I started asking more questions, and in some cases meeting the vendors, and it’s clear that most (80%+) people are still building very rudimentary software / doing basic web marketing without agents.

If you build an agency, you will be dead by December of next year. If you build a brand that people believe in and want to commission work from, you will never have to think about “moat” ever again.

You guys are getting too obsessed with storytelling. Talking about your company in compelling ways is marketing. Always has been. A terminally online manic pixie dream girl is not your silver bullet to standing out on the timeline. It’s substance in your product and team.

I don’t know how anyone is resisting the temptations of instant output and doing real work without putting pen to paper. The medium is the message. I literally cannot think straight when my laptop is in front of me. The real work has to happen slowly, analog, and then output accelerates once I get my fingers on the keyboard.

Osaurus for Windows has built-in privacy controls to protect your sensitive information. Watch an accountant’s workflow: Claude Sonnet 5.5 drafts a letter to the IRS while the client’s name, SSN, and other sensitive details never leave the PC.

Where did the creativity go? If the last five years have taught us anything it’s that creativity is a uniquely human characteristic. We are building more and more intelligent technology, we are working faster and more efficiently, we are dissecting “taste” and “design” and “ambition,” trying to make sense of them for computers to absorb. And yet, I can’t say that I’ve seen any correlation between more powerful models and more creativity in the world. The only way AI unlocks human creativity is if it unlocks more time for us to explore and experiment and reflect. But ultimately people are being pulled in to working harder despite these powerful tools at their disposal, arguably making them more productive but less creative.

AI-generated text lacks "knowability." There is nobody behind the page whose mind you can peak into and understand. In this way, LLM writing fails to be a mirror into your own psyche. It simply is exposing you to an idea, which is valuable, but is not the full value of writing.
