HOLLYWOOD: With all my “negative talk” I’m merely referring to the blunt realities of the business. From a purely artistic perspective I believe one only need justify it to themselves. Wrote this to act as my pinned Tweet since I’m so misunderstood... And so BLOCKED. 😂

Stoked! Got my light bulbs. 💡 And…? 🤔 …and the only other ones that worked were $1,680 for 48 count. I got these for $100 for 48 count. Thus, I’m fucking psyched! 😂 …all the… small things 🎶

Can we not claim to know if a script is marketable if we’ve never sold anything. It’s dangerous, uninformed language in a sales pitch. Respectfully, you don’t know. Even agents don’t declare those implications. I was married to one for 20 years. Not how she nor her colleagues spoke. It’s remarkable this even needs to be said. Respectfully.

Reminds me of a convo I had with some execs. They said straight to my face, zero sarcasm, “Execs are actually more important to a movie than writers.” Mmmm’k. Every exec should try to write something their friends will buy. It’s not as easy as it looks, but don’t believe me. Try it.😘
Hollywood doesn't have a shortage of original voices. It has a problem trusting them once it hires them.

Ps… forgot to point out the obvious. Said execs will already be hella connected. There’s literally no way it doesn’t sell! 🤣🤣🤣

Guy hustles. Respect 🫡 Some folks grind, some don’t. But how else you gonna make this happen? 👇🏾
Throw caution to the wind. Give a nod to the Gods. And hit Send. The response rate is low. The void of no response is the norm. But this cold query script crossed the gator filled moat. Off to the Voodoo Shop for mojo.

This is lame as fuck. Someone asked if this was me. Absolutely not. I don’t threaten people. I’m a fan of zero services, but I explain why with *words.* However, I have received anonymous death threats due to nothing more than my opinions about the REAL industry. This “individual/organization” should be outed for everyone’s safety. I suspect it’s another service runner. Imagine doing this shit inside the industry. This is THE reason the real industry doesn’t allow these psychos in, and why personal security is common industry wide. Absolute amateur behavior. This person should be arrested and face the full consequences of the law. *I stay strapped. CCW.
Fighting for the rights of dogs have taught me to step into my power. I have kept this a secret for years but for the past 7 years of me going to @austinfilmfest I would receive a threatening email from a fake email the day before to say I will be attacked if I went to try to scare me to not go. For years I know the person/organization behind these horrific emails and this year I will address that person right to his face.

RAW TAKE: I think most dating gurus are full of shit. It’s clear to me they are hypothesizing dating and weren’t actually successful at it (i.e. too many choices). Said bluntly, hot interesting women chasing THEM. There’s something to be said for lived experiences, as every woman has innate womanly traits, however they’re all different. What aspect never changes in that quotient? A: You. I feel that’s overlooked in dating convo for men. Writing analogy: it’s akin to giving bad notes where the note giver attempts to make it their own. As opposed to attempting to elevate what’s already there. I’m not gonna downplay it, I killed at dating. Pro. Then landed my dream girl. Every dude can. I don’t believe the dating world is dead. Women are attracted to dudes who own who they are and create an enticing presence. There’s no such thing as a “type.” Their lists go out the window. Been there done that. Good luck. 👍🏾

Inspiration is cheap, it finds you working. What are you working on today? Today as in not tomorrow(s). I came across a writer hopeful with 23k followers trying to break in. She writes 1 hour per day, 4 days a week. Bless her heart… she should have a script done in 10 years Feel free to argue why time spent is a made up metric. 😂

How many people gotta tell you this? It’s not the myth that Hollywood will steal it, they don’t care. It’s that ‘in play’ writers might. Then spec it and have it to market before you quarter final. *That said. I know Jamie knows what he’s doing. You pitch a thing to a billion and 3 shops, you stop worrying about it being stolen… anywhere. Lol Don’t do this with something that hasn’t been shopped bc you’re “excited!” and want validation from other writers who don’t care what you write. A sale is the only validation that matters. 😘
Take this down and write it. You can only copywright execution...not an idea. And this idea is good. Don't give it away.

A MUST READ IMO: Interview between Billy Corgan and Danny Elfman (Ongio Boingo/One of Hollywood’s biggest film composers). DE: l also in that time created four scripts and three musicals. BC: I did not know that. DE: Nobody does. BC: No, but I did my research and didn't know that. Have any of the scripts come to fruition? DE: (Humbly) No. No. BC: I just would think with your, I don't know, I use the word leverage, but your position here in Dear Hollywood. DE: I tell you, I’m just the composer, you know? ***That should blow your mind apart. Get it? Like I said, nepotism ain’t real in screenwriting. They have to love the script. Period. Which is good news for you, because you murder the page. Meritocracy.

He added “I’ve never been that good at networking.” Digest. *He’s composed on approximately 110 films. Many of them hits.

NEPOTISM IS A MYTH: For Screenwriters. Example: I got signed by CAA. My agent’s husband was a screenwriter before me. Was he signed there? Nope. Did Shari sign him back as an insider favor? Nope. Was she even asked to read his script? Nope. Not how it works. If you’re a writer no one cares who you’re related to. Is the script amazing or not? That’s it. Your own twin sibling wouldn’t sign you as a favor, risking their reputation and job. Agents aren’t lone wolves, they answer to the deportment heads and the partners. That’s what the year end bonus meeting is about—the company’s bottom line and their contribution. POINT: That’s good news for you, it’s a meritocracy. Unlike some contests where they choose their friends and it’s obvious they do. 🤣🤣🤣

PERIPHERAL AMATEUR NONSENSE: Pages of ONE of my bibles. Hella photoshop. Shot some myself. Looks glossy. Flagship-esque show per HBO. De Luca attached. POINT: I’ll never do anything like this again. ONLY A SCRIPT. NOTHING ELSE. REASON: gives them too many reasons to PASS. *I should have revealed first founding mother and black founding father. **I had Simon & Schuster IP and Silicon Valley consultants. Regardless. I believe NOW in script only. But do you.

I continue on with season 1, 2, show arc, etc. But it’s all WAY TOO MUCH IMO. For my liking. Even if folks high up the food chain disagree. Decide off the SCRIPT. Period. You get nothing else.

I think writing a pilot is harder in general. That is, if you want anyone to take it seriously and try to make it. It’s doing more than a feature, with less page real estate. It’s not just less pages.
I work with a lot of writers who assume a 30 page pilot is easier than an hour long. Trust me, it’s almost always harder.

Some writers ask how to break in. All they need is an open door. They have a hit script. They assure you. People tell them how. That way sounds hard. And time consuming. So they ask again. This time for the REAL answer, the previous people having been exposed as full of shite. New people give them the same answer. Also full of shite. This ask continues indefinitely… ONCE AND FOR ALL: Could someone please give these people the exact roadmap to break in? The TikTok version. Zero struggle. No waiting. The REAL way. The easy way. They’ve already written the hit. Must they do everything? Thank you. 😘

Agreed. Reads amateur because mostly amateurs do it. Very few pros. Bad art work/clumsy graphics are your first red flag. Cover art, lookbooks, cute fonts etc are more reasons to PASS not BUY. It’s a thing you try a couple times then admit to yourself how cringe it is and stop. Even IF you’re a skilled artist, you’re not BLT. If you can’t blow people away with 12 point, you got bigger problems. K.I.S.S.
I prefer to undersell and overdeliver. Use the most unassuming, plain cover page imaginable. Courier New font. Nothing fancy. Title. Written by. Email and phone number. That's it. Let the story blow them away.
