Faith, AI and the Future of Our Children
I was privileged to deliver remarks and join a group discussion at the Faith-AI Covenant Roundtable in Nairobi, convened by Dana Humaid, Chief Executive of the Interfaith Alliance for Safer Communities (IAFSC), and Baroness Joanna Shields OBE, CEO of Precognition, bringing together faith leaders, technology companies, policymakers, researchers and civil society.
Our conversations explored how AI is shaping young people's identity, values, and sense of belonging, including the risks of radicalization, and its implications for children's learning, emotional development, and wellbeing.
I emphasized human dignity, agency and shared responsibility. Human agency must be preserved not only in how AI is used, but also in how it is designed and developed, with safeguards embedded from the outset. This connects directly with Kenya's work through the Coalition for Children's Rights and Protection in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, advancing both opportunities and protection for children.
My appreciation to Dana, Joanna and all participants for an enriching dialogue, building on New York and Paris, and bringing African perspectives to the Covenant ahead of its planned launch in Abu Dhabi in 2027.
