Today, Venice passed 5,000,000 users. Still private. Still anonymous. Still unrestricted. Thank you to every builder, creator, and free thinker on Venice.

I have a postgres optimisation issue where two queries would benefit from optimizations. github.com/apalis-dev/apalis… Todos: 1. Optimize both queries 2. Add any new needed indexes If you are looking for a quick oss contribution, this would be a good issue.

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash just got a serious upgrade. @deepseek_ai’s 1017 outscores leading open-source and frontier models on nearly every benchmark. Same model in the Venice app, simply upgraded and available via the API as deepseek-v4-1-flash-1017. Fully private.

I’ve spent the last year using @AskVenice to track down 30 years worth of fatigue and mood issues that has stumped the traditional medical system. I feel for doctors - they don’t have the time to spend with each patient to absorb the context these models can. This is one of the core reasons I’m so bullish on private AI - its ability to help and to heal will be incredible AND people should be incredibly careful which models they’re feeding their lives most intimate medical data to.
This morning when I woke up, I thought it was 7:30am, so when I took off my eye mask, I was surprised to find it was only 4:30am. But I felt awake. Not only that, I felt ENERGIZED. I have not felt anything upon waking other than utter exhaustion for at least a decade, but probably more like 16 years. Last week, I did Function Health Labs, which are super comprehensive. I started getting results back Saturday, fed them to a private AI, and it was freaking out about how I have no energy. YOU GUYS -- I'm a carnivore and I am ANEMIC. I have eaten red meat 🥩🥩🥩 for 99.99% of my meals for the last two and a half years, and I'm ANEMIC -- wth ferritin stores above 240! (This is so high, it was marked as dangerously high on Function Health.) It diagnosed me with anemia of chronic inflammation, which I hadn't heard of before, but it explained to me a question I had meant to ask a doctor -- why one iron marker was low when another was high and I was eating so much red meat -- but that doctor missed it because she preferred to spend our appointment time lecturing me about how I needed to eat greens even though I told her that eating this way was making me feel BETTER 🙄. (Pro tip if you're a doctor: if a patient who has been incredibly sick for over a decade tells you something they are doing is making them feel better, BE A HUMAN AND BE EXCITED FOR THEM and don't be a fucking idiot and tell them to go back to eating the way that made them feel worse.) I spent all weekend talking with the AI about my lab results, and it told me which supplements to take, including a few I already had on hand that it said would help. The main one it said I needed I had to order, and it will arrive next week, so I haven't even been able to take the most important one yet. DESPITE THAT, just taking the one I had lying around for the last seven days allowed me to FEEL ENERGY UPON WAKING!!!! Is this what it feels like to be a normal human?!?!?! Feeling energy upon waking made me want to cry. I feel so gypped!!!! I can't believe I'm only 7 days into what I need to do to get over this, and I am not exhausted and fighting to get through the day 😭 If I weren't so fucking excited, I think I'd be crying, but seriously, WTF. Western medical doctors and the healthcare system are so fucked. Yay for comprehensive labs and AI!!!

this is about right
I have a lot of thoughts on the whole “it’s impossible to find someone technical who’s also good at creating content, has taste, and deeply understands the ai ecosystem (twitter)” In no particular order 1. I have seen many companies hire for this role too early. When I interviewed for this vague new media/ devrel/ DevX world before joining Cerebras, many very cool companies reached out but they had no clear product to market and no clear audience. What ends up happening is that there is no clear need or scope and this person is dumped to do everything because they lowkey can do everything. (Be warned) 2. Many of the best folks at this role did not start as GTM folks. The most common profile are folks who are engineers first, generally have CS degrees (although many are now self taught) and naturally found themselves really excited to be educators as well. Key word = educators. I had a CS degree from MIT, decided very early I did not want to be a software engineer because it was too monkey mill, and carved out a hybrid role for myself. 3. When thinking about who is exceptional at this role, it’s important to distinguish the person from the company. For example, if someone is at a top lab, how much of the viewership, followers, etc are from them or just natural company groupies. (This is not to say folks at oai, ant, etc are not extremely talented). 4. So! Now everyone thinks they can now be a creator because how good AI is. One of the main differentiators for engaging content is having a literal human face in your content versus obscene amounts of screen recordings and graphic animations. Thus everyone is trying to hire a face of a company and needs to hire faces of a company. 5. This is just a thought but there are very clearly AI companies built around their founder where the founder is the face and everyone at the company feels like it’s their job to just make the founder more famous. I will not name names. I appreciate smaller companies like @browserbase who seem to amplify the many voices in the company. 6. There are still a ridiculous amount of companies who do not realize the value of investing heavily in these types of folks. Perhaps they are scarred by the lack of impact of enterprise/ old school marketing. But these AI companies, when not doing well, react by firing and downsizing these technical GTM teams (wrong move buddy), you never hear about them again, and they spiral into oblivion. Don’t do this. 7. There are two types of companies who “get it”. The companies who just do, and the companies who have been burned by 5+ years of failing to get the company message out and are finally like oh shit. We need to hire these types of folks and do this type of thing.

Product team at Exa is hiring! come work with me the work is just really interesting - building time versioned search of the web, productionizing research across our retrieval team, driving search quality, API design and there is still so much more to do
Exa just passed $100m in annualized revenue. We've grown almost exactly 10x per year for 3 years. We now handle 2 billion requests a month from 200k+ teams. And it’s still so early: We predict agents will search 1000x more than humans by 2030. Agents don't search like humans. They write long, complex queries and want all the world's data, not just the web. We've spent 5 years building a search engine designed for them. We now serve personal agents, AI labs, coding agents, GTM agents, really any agent. Exa gives these agents access to 100s of billions of web documents and tons of proprietary data. Our customers are increasingly noticing that information is the bottleneck to agent performance. While the world seems close to perfect intelligence with models like Fable and Astra, we are very far from perfect information. To our small but legendary team, thank you for getting us here, from engineering to research to GTM to ops. To our customers, it is an honor to serve you. We have some exciting releases coming soon and can't wait to share them 🫡

Use @AskVenice so you don’t have to censor yourself/worry about what you are sharing with AI.
People have zero idea what others are confessing to AI right now. - biometrics (palm lines and iris scans) - exact salary and debts - bank statements - full medical reports - symptoms they're scared to google - company's confidential files - passwords and API keys - screenshots of their partner's chats - "is my partner cheating on me?" - breakup texts before sending - selfies asking "am I ugly?" - fights with their parents - 2am therapy sessions - mistakes they still regret - insecurities they'd never tell a human
