Because the 2 minute warning already happened AND the bears were in 3rd and inches, it is very difficult to stop the offense from gaining an inch. So you jump offsides on defense and give the offense a first down to save a timeout. Because if the offense gains a first on 3rd and inches you have to waste a timeout right there and they could run the clock more.
