"but mass specs are not robust".. "mass specs won't work in the OR".. "they are too finicky".. "I worked with MS in undergrad and it is too complex".. statements I heard over years about MS are partially true BUT we are showing that MS can & will be adapted to work in hospitals!
This is how we roll! 🛼🚨 In our new paper, we placed our Orbitraps on wheels and moved them through hospital hallways and elevators while acquiring data! We also demonstrate MasSpec Pen analysis in the OR on battery power🔋@BCM_Surgery@BCMFromtheLabspubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs…

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for T1N0M0 PTC has excellent long-term outcomes, and patients with subcapsular tumors more than 2 mm from the capsule or trachea and unifocal tumors may be the best candidates for RFA. ja.ma/3Q8PlSU
Study findings suggest that MSPen technology may enable intraoperative identification of tissues during thyroid and parathyroid surgical procedures. ja.ma/3ZYuwhl
Surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands is most challenging, even to expert surgeons but the MasSpec Pen offers the power of real-time tissue identification during surgery.

ALT Surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands is most challenging, even to expert surgeons. These relatively small structures located in the neck are in contact with each other and share certain features, including color and tactile feel, making it difficult to visually identify them.
In a study published in the journal JAMA Surgery, Drs. Livia S. Eberlin, James W. Suliburk and their colleagues evaluated the performance and clinical applicability of a handheld probe called the MasSpec Pen, a technology for discriminating thyroid, parathyroid and lymph node tissues during surgery.

ALT Baylor College of Medicine surgeons do more than surgery. Most do work in the College’s other mission areas of research and education as well. But in addition, several are inventors too.

Thrilled that this work with an incredible collaborator and @bcmhouston faculty @livia__se is now in publication. The FUTURE of surgical technology NOW @BCM_Surgery . We show the power of mass spec pen during thyroid and parathyroid surgery. @TheAAES@AmCollSurgeons
Dear house of medicine,
Happy (academic) new year.
Here’s your annual paycut.
This one will bring you to a total 23% decrease since that whole “pandemic” thing.
Love,
The US Government
PS: We have shortage of healthcare workers and deep health access issues in this country. Could you help with that? kthxbye.
