My latest - and fifth (!!) - for the @gdnlongread, following a third generation sushi chef through Japan for eight days, in the wake of the fire that destroyed his restaurant a month before.

FREELOADER #6 has landed, present and correct.
Read me gloating about England's loss from the top of the Tate Modern, @joe_bish on the tyranny of wage-slave lunch slop, + guest star @shockproofbeats on the spa days & sex toys of freebies past. Lock in.

References to Alan Moore and Iain Sinclair are always likely to entice me, but I particularly enjoyed this piece of psychogeographic reportage by @kf_morris on Shooters Hill. Great article @_TheLondonerthe-londoner.co.uk/whats-hid…
Get yourself down to @magCulture for the launch of the @gdnlongread's gorgeous new print mag. You've got your Tom Lamonts, your Linda Rodriguez McRobbies, and yours truly, talkin' longform from Maine to San Diego.
£10 entry, 18:30-20:30, pints after.

On a searing Sunday morning, I paired back up with Ben McMahon for the first time since Japan, spending the day searching for Chingford's pastures green.
A pleasure to do my first for @jacobfuredi at @dispatch__media, and it's a meaty one. Do tuck in.

Last night, when Harry Kane led England off the pitch, one London suburb was watching particularly closely.
Chingford produced both Kane and David Beckham. For weeks, it has been in the media spotlight.
But what happens when the World Cup circus leaves?

Not my only bit of psychogeography out this week: was delighted to nerd out about my deepest anorak obsession, Shooters Hill, in @_TheLondoner's last weekend essay.
Read it, go to Shooters Hill, get as obsessed as I am.

We've had the needful ⚽️sociology of the great Lanarkshire and Co. Durham managers, of the Charlton bros, Best & Edwards, Keegan & Dalglish 🙂 Now @kf_morris has done the business for Beckham & Kane & Chingford @dispatch__media

You're probably a bit hungover, a bit miserable. Fortunately, at times, so is this piece.
A @kf_morris dispatch from Chingford, where Kane and Beckham grew up. Melancholic state-of-the-nation reporting at its best.
The photos are also 10/10

The best moments in The Sopranos are when clear-headed characters from outside of the main orbit of the show pass judgement on the delusions of the central characters
If there's one thing Morrissey known for, it's routinely canceling concerts. If there are two things Morrissey's known for, it's canceling shows and regularly revisiting his blood feud with former bandmate Johnny Marr.
In the latest escalation of their perpetual (occasionally one-sided) war of words, Morrissey has uploaded a lengthy letter titled "The Art Of Forgery" in response to an upcoming BBC documentary about The Smiths that is apparently critical of Morrissey, but paints Marr as an "angel."
Good fucking grief, just saw the entire @TheFaceMagazine archive has been deleted - four of the best features of my career just wiped offline. Have got PDFs for two of them, but fucking hell man
