For most of my life, I was an A's fan. Lived and died with them for 150+ games every summer. Then John Fisher ripped them from Oakland, and with that, I lost my passion for baseball.
A few years ago, I had a chance encounter with someone in the Brewers front office. He and his family have become very close friends of ours.
In turn, we all became casual Brewers fans a few years ago. Then, this year, got really into them. My oldest asks every night if they won. My wife wears their gear. My dad, who gave up on baseball long ago because of the A's ownership, has found a team again.
This isn't just a title. It's a team that gave both my father and I our love of baseball back. I can't thank them enough for that gift.
All that said, this is for Milwaukee. For all the fans who have suffered for decades through heartbreak. This is for the people who froze in County Stadium. Who watched the lost years of the '70s, the late '80s and '90s.
This is for the Brewers fans who will cry tonight and hug someone they've never met, sharing a bond and perhaps a drink.
Congrats, Brewers! And thanks so much.
