Glenna did an unusual thing that people typically don't do: she checked a citation in a law review article to see whether the citation said what the authors claimed it did. She found that the citation said the opposite of what the authors claimed it did. She then asked the editor of the law review for a correction. The editor did not reply to the request. She then asked the authors for comment on the incorrect citation. The authors acknowledged that the citation was erroneous and regretted the error. The authors then insisted that the citation did not matter to their actual argument because nothing in their argument depended on the citation being right. Glenna then wrote a post explaining why the erroneous citation was in fact important to their actual argument, and why the erroneous citation also exposed a wider ignorance of the subject on which the authors were writing. (She claims, convincingly, that it's important to know what sex is in order to understand what sex discrimination is, and that being able to define what sex is is an inextricable aspect of knowing what sex is.) I consulted with some lawyer friends in a chat group who helpfully explained to me that no one ever reads footnotes, no one checks the underlying references, and no one cares if they are correct or not because law review articles like the one Murray and Shaw published are merely political advocacy masquerading as legal scholarship that no one reads, and therefore not to expect the Supreme Court Review to issue a correction for a citation that the authors are on the record admitting was erroneous. Do I have all that right, @williambaude?

“A publicly funded institution, legally obligated to follow equality law, paid women less than men in identical roles, got caught, dragged it out for a year, and only coughed up under threat of a tribunal. That is not a pay oversight. That is a policy.”
BBC BROKE EQUALITY LAW AND GOT CAUGHT Carrie Gracie spent 30 years at the @BBC. She spoke fluent Mandarin. She ran the Beijing bureau. She was one of four international editors, two men and two women. Then in 2017 the BBC was forced to publish salary data. Gracie looked at what her male equivalent, the North America editor, was earning. He was on nearly double her salary. She had explicitly said equal pay was a condition of taking the China role. The BBC agreed. Then quietly paid her far less anyway. She asked for equal pay. The BBC offered her a raise that still left her below the men. She turned it down. She resigned from the China post in January 2018 and published an open letter telling the licence fee public exactly what their broadcaster was doing. The BBC then put her through nearly a year of an internal grievance process that went nowhere. It took three meetings with the Director-General and the threat of an employment tribunal before she got a public apology and the backdated pay owed to her. The total came to £361,000. She donated every penny to the Fawcett Society (@fawcettsociety), the gender equality charity. She said the fight was about principle, not the payout. A publicly funded institution, legally obligated to follow equality law, paid women less than men in identical roles, got caught, dragged it out for a year, and only coughed up under threat of a tribunal. That is not a pay oversight. That is a policy. Gracie did not ask for a favour. She asked for what she was owed. The BBC made her fight for it like it was a privilege. Can a woman who only discovers the doctor intending to treat her is a mentally unstable man pretending to be a woman when she is first confronted by him at her hospital beside, or when she walks into his surgery, truly give consent to be treated by him when the consequences are that she may not be treated at all? And that she will likely be marked out as a 'transphobic bigot' for refusing his treatment? Being told you will be treated by a doctor called 'Elizabeth' only to have a man doing his best approximation of 'woman' walk in to treat you removes a woman's ability to give informed consent.

I want a criminal investigation into the school bag situation in Scotland the overspend is like a siren for corruption and theft. Scotgov/SNP could have just given P1s a voucher to spend on a local high street for a bag of their choosing. That would have injected some much needed money back into high streets and localities. Instead they think of the Chinese before they think of Scots. If there ever was a situation to convey the mixture of scumminess and incompetence of the SNP this is a great example. Most of the SNP don’t even have children and it shows in the way they think.

Oh! It's liking having the actual BBC back. The interview with Professor Sallie Baxendale starts at 19.40. She is asked sensible questions, in a normal way. Thank-you @BBCRadio4.

Both of these despicable men have children with surrogate mothers.
Jimmy Fallon asks Sam Altman if he uses ChatGPT to raise the baby he has with his husband, and his answer is hilarious Jimmy Fallon: “You, you and your husband just had a baby. Congratulations, yeah. How old? How old is the baby?” Sam Altman: “Eight month old?” Jimmy Fallon: “Are you loving him?” Sam Altman: “So much. I have no non-cliched thing to say, but it is by far so much better than anything anyone tells you. I just so incredibly happy.” Jimmy Fallon: “And do you use ChatGPT when, when raising your baby?” Sam Altman: “I do. I mean I feel kind of bad about it because I, we have this like genius level at everything, intelligence sitting there like waiting to unravel the mysteries of humanity.” “And I'm like, why my kid stop dropping his pizza on the floor and laughing?” “So I feel like I'm not asking a good enough question.” “But it is, I don't know. I cannot imagine having gone through like figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT. Clearly people did it for a long time, no problem.”

Mr Kumar & a group of other wealthy Oxford Phd students went on a campaign of accusing me of racism over ten years ago he had never met me but decided I was racist based on 2 articles I had written in the Guardian (you can still read them & judge for yourself). They ridiculed me bullied me on line for several years because of my class & that I was white & had a mixed race son referring to me as 'Becky' & because I had grown up on a council estate they laughed about me being rough, sexually promiscuous (Becky) & stupid all the white working class girl stereotypes. It is of no surprise that this man is now bullying a Jewish woman on television & is in fact responsible for the Greens racist turn.

State-sanctioned madness strikes again. The Australian Sex Discrimination Commission just confirmed that biological blokes taking drugs to induce lactation are now protected under breastfeeding laws. You couldn't make this up. The bureaucracy is completely captured, redefining basic biology on the fly to cater to fringe demands while throwing women’s rights under the bus. When common sense becomes radical, you know the institutions are broken. 📸 Senator Leah Blyth

“Please free her, my son.” Tremaine Carroll’s father goes public with an incoherent statement, discussing his son’s rape charges while he was housed in a California women’s prison. It’s hard to believe this father’s statement is real life and not some sick joke. California is housing fully intact male inmates in locked cells with women. It’s so monstrous as to render the reality of the situation hard to comprehend.
