Six armed police officers at TCR and then the entirety of Waterloo shut yesterday I’m both thankful there genuinely are people designing this stuff and keeping us safe But also not sure the system is running well right now

People in tech do not appreciate how much of their lives is only possible because people making £49,000 per year design the response process for armed police to respond to incidents at Tube stations in a way that balances disruption and safety

Number is made up but the point stands. How would you decide what incident needs station staff, what needs an EMT, what needs a bobby, and what needs 6 blokes with really big guns? How do you train thousands of staff to make that decision in the space of 2 minutes without taking down the train network every day?

Wait until people discover Jenkins :)
Seeing a lot of posts that CI needs a lot of compute, so you can run your CI on X, Y, and Z sandbox platform and cut your bill by 1/3rd. I think you will be surprised how much other things matter too: 1. Good bandwidth to Azure/Microsoft if your code lives in GitHub. 2. Efficient VM snapshotting to do a “sticky disk” type thing. 3. Package caching on the network. 4. Carefully managing oversubscription, or not oversubscribing at all, because compilers often use all the CPUs you can throw at them. 5. A distributed file system for storing caches, because CI is all about caching expensive steps. CI is all about caching, so cheap compute without all of this would still slow your team down. The winning combination would have a fast distributed file system, cheap compute, no oversubscription of resources, vertical scaling to keep the sandboxes small when caches and being restored and scale up quickly when running compilers.

Shameful, shameful series of events
We've decided to sunset Arc on December 22, 2026. That's not an easy sentence to write. We spent years building Arc and celebrating each and every release along the way: we have so much pride and love for what we made alongside the Arc community. Our priority is to deliver best-in-class security for our members. Keeping a browser secure takes constant, dedicated work that is only increasing in the age of AI. Dia was built from the ground up to meet today’s security standards, so that's where our engineering and security teams will focus moving forward. We've worked to make switching to @diabrowser as easy as possible for Arc members. Here's how: · Your passwords, bookmarks, extensions and history come over to Dia seamlessly. · Spaces, Folders, and Tab Groups are in Dia and import over with your data intact. · Dia now surpasses Arc benchmarks in stability, speed, and security. · The browser features you use in Arc are free in Dia, and the AI is optional. Thank you for using Arc, for pushing us to make it better, and for building alongside us. The team that made Arc is the same team behind Dia, and some of our most ambitious work is just ahead. We'd love for you to be there with us when it lands.

Yet another Chancellor who hasn’t got a clue Big shame, I won money on Polymarket for Healey to be Chancellor and I had high hopes!
‘We'd have a British sovereign wealth fund now that will be worth probably a trillion pounds’ Chancellor @JohnHealey_MP suggests what Britain could have gained if it had set up an energy wealth fund like Norway’s back in the 1980s #Peston

We’re opening a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent. It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf.

Anyone want to pay me 6 figures to get drunk with their prospects?
SF’s dating pool was once, as an Egyptian founder put it to us, “drier than the desert in my homeland.” Now, gorgeous women are flocking to the city. Why? As AI gets cheaper to build, companies flush with venture cash are hiring beautiful women to charm investors and clients. Enjoy it while it lasts, gentlemen. As @nicolewizman1 writes: paying hotties 6 figures to get drunk with your business prospects feels like a pretty good sign we’re in a bubble. 👇
