🚨 𝗛𝗦𝗜 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗩𝗢𝗧𝗘
Remember my recent post explaining why Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is an agency worth paying attention to?
Well, HSI is back in the headlines today, this time working alongside the FBI in a statewide California election-crime operation.
But the arrests are only part of the story.
𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲:
𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟯: DOJ provides Los Angeles County with a list of more than 20,000 registered voters suspected of being noncitizens.
𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟱: DOJ sues California after officials refuse to set aside ballots from the flagged voters pending verification.
𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲–𝟭𝟳: Federal officials warn election workers about potential criminal liability for knowingly processing unlawful votes.
𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟵: HSI and FBI launch coordinated enforcement actions across all FOUR federal judicial districts in California.
28 lawful permanent residents charged. 11 arrested this morning. Prosecutors allege illegal voter registration, voting, and false statements on immigration-related documents.
𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
DOJ says ALL 28 defendants were identified on that same list of more than 20,000 suspected noncitizen registrants.
And today, DOJ also asked a federal judge to block counting ballots from the remaining flagged voters until eligibility can be addressed.
California disputes the reliability of the list, which has not been fully validated publicly. The charges are allegations, not convictions.
But this is no longer just a dispute over voter-registration data.
It's now a federal criminal investigation, an active lawsuit against California, and an emergency fight over which ballots can be counted.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗦𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁.
And... the raids started at 6am.
Six o'clock 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀.
🚨 𝗜𝗟𝗛𝗔𝗡 𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗥: 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗛𝗦𝗜?
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigates criminal activity including document fraud, financial crime, transnational criminal networks, money laundering and human trafficking.
And this morning, HSI executed a federal search warrant at Ilhan Omar’s home.
Not the FBI. HSI.
Now consider some of the stories surrounding Omar over the past several years.
𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗦
Longstanding allegations involving her family’s immigration history and past marriage. Today’s investigation reportedly centers on paperwork completed by her late father.
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗨𝗦 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗬
Her husband’s California winery, eStCru, was listed at $1M–$5M on a congressional financial disclosure. Following questions about its operations and finances, an amended disclosure listed it as having no value. The company subsequently filed for termination.
𝗧𝗛𝗘 $𝟯𝟬 𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
In February, House Oversight demanded financial records from her husband’s winery and venture-capital firm after their combined disclosed values jumped from no more than $51,000 to as much as $30 million.
𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗙𝗨𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘
The massive Minnesota pandemic-benefits fraud scandal. An FBI-led investigation that has also generated political scrutiny of Omar’s connections and legislative actions. No criminal involvement by Omar has been established.
𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗚𝗡 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗔𝗫 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗦
A 2019 Minnesota investigation produced formal findings involving improper campaign expenditures, including immigration-related legal expenses and tax-return issues.
Now HSI is executing a criminal search warrant.
We don’t know whether any of these older controversies are part of the current investigation. And a search warrant is not a conviction.
But HSI’s jurisdiction extends well beyond deportations.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜’𝗺 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿?
