This was kinda mind-blowing to me, but I just learned Datadog's intern eng interviews don't consist of writing code anymore. No leetcode questions. Instead, they talk through projects they've worked on and talk through a provided app to see problem solving and communication, etc... this actually makes way more sense, but it's a huge shift from when I did intern interviews at places like Amazon and Airbnb and had to deal with those annoying reverse a binary tree questions

This reminds me the loss of "fun" from debugging and problem solving . Remember running out of console log strings? console.log("here 11111") console.log("here now") console.log("here 22222")
I just remembered that I didn't use console.log to debug in a long time. console.log("\n"); console.log("--------"); console.log("here"); console.log("please please work"); console.log("blablabla"); console.log("--------"); console.log("\n"); The good old times.

Maybe this is a hot take but why do saunas draw out the worst and most entitled people? At my gym, it's the most entitled crowd and same with my apt building . It's like a meeting of the craziest people

"I read zero developer docs"
It's crazy how much DX has changed! For my new project, I used Codex and @Cloudflare (been wanting to run a prod app there). With only knowing the basics about CF, Codex used the plugin to deploy my app over Workers, D1, R2 and Queues. I read zero developer docs, YouTube videos, blogs, StackOverflow , pretty nuts... not sure if this is good or bad?

What am I missing? Why would delta block agents? Money is money no?
Delta, Chase and Amazon are blocking AI agents. The war on agents has begun, and here鈥檚 how it probably plays out: Stage 1: Companies block agents because agents skip the ads and upsells. Stage 2: Agents learn to act like humans, and it becomes an arms race. Stage 3: The market splits. Companies that make money on sales let agents in, companies that make money on data charge for access, and the giants build their own agents. Stage 4: A trusted middle layer for agent identity and payments becomes the standard way in. Stage 5: Companies that welcome agents start winning customers from the ones that block them. Stage 6: The agent blockers come back and let agents in on their own terms. Stage 7: Everyone starts competing for agents with better prices, faster checkout and SEO built for agents. Stage 8: The ads come back, and companies pay to be your agent鈥檚 first recommendation. Stage 9: The agent war ends, and selling to agents becomes as normal as having a website.

"The tech vibe has never been more different between the two cities." I feel like no one is talking about this, but couldn't be more true right now
heading back to NY from SF - quick observations 1) Basically all the AI companies are starting to converge on the same spaces within their category. Vibe is way more cutthroat than collaborative now. 2) Was trying to explain to people that most of my friends in NY don't use LLMs at all, except maybe chatGPT to help write emails. Many didn't believe me. The tech vibe has never been more different between the two ciites. 3) Everyone seems much more hyper aware about money everyone else is making now. It does remind me of finance in New York where personal net worth is now very explicitly a driving force in people's decisions (vs. before where it was more veiled). 4) It is insane how expensive everything - talking to some people about housing market/childcare there made me gasp outloud. 1.5x-2x of even NY costs for something similar/ 5) Agent swarm stuff seems to have increased doomerism amongst people who previously were pretty optimistic about AI in the last year 6) Like everyone seems to want to start a data labeling company to make a quick bag lol 7) very anecdotal based on a small number of convos, but I was surprised that some people are actively pushing out life milestones they wanted to do earlier (e.g. find a partner, have a kid, etc) because they think the AI window is short right now and they want to make sure they prioritize it (personally I don't think those things are mutually exclusive but hard to convince people of that)

馃摚 If you work in tech and are involved with conferences - attend, sponsor or speak at them, please DM me! I'm working on something new and would love to get some feedback before launch1 General idea - a way to discover conferences, but also understand where competitors/partners are sponsoring

Need to take a second to appreciate how much easier and less stressful Codex has made working on a side project. 7:32pm: Error comes in via Slack. Tag Codex in replies to put up a PR. 7:34pm: PR is up and tagged for review That's 2min, 12seconds Codex took to fix! Insane.... In a previous world, I'd need my laptop, login to Cloudwatch and review logs, debug codebase, spin up local app, and make a PR. What a world
