I was finally able to get a sealed FireTV cube gen 2 which allowed me to install CoreElec (Kodi) on to it as a dual boot OS target. This is replacing my Nvidia Shield 2017 which served me well. The new setup allows for both of these things at the same time now: ▶️ Dynamic HDR ▶️ Spatial Surround HD Audio Passthrough

The core library still sits in Jellyfin but additionally this new setup integrates nicely for live tv through TVHeadend giving access to my cable tv without any internet access. The open source community really delivered here. No compromises

If you would’ve told me 6 years ago that FFmpeg will release an AAC encoder that beats qAAC which I had to manually extract out of an old iTunes installation I would’ve not believed you. But here we are
FFmpeg's native AAC encoder has just been rewritten, and now beats both fdkaac and qAAC according to current metrics and listening tests. This is not a small change. @X and @OBSProject use it, as well as many others. It's been a critical piece of the internet, and is now the best

For anyone also using the JMB585 SATA controller Turns out it has a bug that causes silent data corruption on modern systems and it got a patch in the upstream mailing list worth checking out. I just patched the Armbian Rockchip Kernel so that side is taken care of

Nice, while I don’t really like snap packages it should make it easier to get it running for many. They explicitly mention the Orion O6 / O6N as validated too

Using @claudeai and @scriptableapp to avoid bad UX and reverse engineer APIs feels like a cheat code. There’s too many apps nowadays

Is Nvidia finally going to reveal N1X? 🤔 I've been tracking this project since at least early 2025 when some Geekbench scores leaked and now they’re teasing a new era of PC at Computex 2026

Shoutout to @VennStone for going through the weeds to get Steam Arm64 + Proton 11 Arm64 running. Saved me probably hours of troubleshooting for this new project I'm working on. And WOW this runs smooth. Like once it’s running with DXVK you can actually game on it. Plugged in my Xbox Controller and it just works
