Anyone test loading performance of Astro "spa mode" vs normal? docs.astro.build/en/guides/v…
Without actually using any persistance or view transitions, and without speculation rules. Just plain loading perf.
(Can't use field LCP-- I'm okay with just lab results.)

For those playing with the Chrome Soft Navigations Experiment, we've published a Changelog of all the changes to this metric by Chrome version:

We'll look to keep it up to date as we iterate this API.

DevTools update! We've added whiskers to the Interactions lane of a Performance trace:
ALT Screenshot of the Interactions track of Chrome DevTools showing a Pointer event with a faint grey line before it (showing the time between the pointer event and the Task actually executing on the main thread), and after it (showing the time after finishing executing the event handler and before the next render happens).

Core Web Vitals & @googlechrome saved users 10,000 years of waiting for pages to load: blog.chromium.org/2023/11/ho… ~ Learn about the WebPerf work that enabled this in our new post.
ALT Chrome saved users over 10,000 years of waiting for web pages to load. Our savings for LCP translate into 8,000 years saved for users waiting for pages to load on Android and 2,000 years in 2023 so far. On INP, we have saved users 800 years on Android and 450 years on Windows so far in 2023.
This wiki article from MobX folks was first written in 2016, and I think it still perfectly captures the use cases for Observables vs Signals:

Well it seems like a lot of you are getting emails from Google Search Console warning the INP on your site could be improved and you don't know what to make of them! So let's take a deep breath and delve into what this all means and how you should action them. 🧵 (1/20)
As a user-focused #webperf metric, does Interaction to Next Paint actually correlate to user behaviour? @cliffcrocker analyzed RUM data from four different sites and found that overall there's a correlation between INP and conversions.

Q for React folks:
useTransition() will abort a render if I start a new transition mid-flight... are there any hooks for abort?
useEffect() doesn't trigger, and startTransition() doesn't support returning a cleanup function...
@dan_abramov @acdlite
I'm just trying to cleanup work started from an async function.
I've hooked up AbortController (not super convenient, is there a better pattern?) but I need a place to call .abort().
In my case, startTransition is called higher up in the component tree...
NEW POST: We looked at 100,000+ real websites to understand how web frameworks actually perform across CWV, Lighthouse and more.
