Sounds like one of those infomercials. “Get a free toaster if you order in the next 30 minutes” 😂
Catholics, reminder: You can free a soul from purgatory every day this week. From Nov 1–8, the Church grants a plenary indulgence, applicable to the souls in purgatory, each day you: 1. Visit a cemetery and pray for the dead (even silently) 2. Go to confession (within about 20 days before or after) 3. Receive Holy Communion 4. Pray for the Pope's intentions (an Our Father and Hail Mary is enough) 5. Be detached from all sin, even venial Today only (All Souls Day): you can also gain one by visiting a church and praying the Our Father and the Creed. One confession covers the whole week. Communion and the prayer for the Pope are needed for each day's indulgence. And if you're not fully detached from sin, you still gain a partial indulgence. So go anyway. Repost this to spread the word. The souls in purgatory need our help.

Works don’t make a faith real, they evidence that our faith is real.

The cross is such good news. Jesus took what we deserve so that we could receive what we don’t deserve: eternal life.

John Calvin makes clear baptism is not necessary for salvation: "How much evil has been caused by the dogma, ill expounded, that baptism is necessary to salvation. For when the opinion prevails that all are lost who happen not to be dipped in water, our condition becomes worse than that of God's ancient people, as if his grace were more restrained than under the Law. In that case, Christ will be thought to have come not to fulfil, but to abolish the promises, since the promise, which was then effectual in itself to confer salvation before the eighth day, would not now be effectual without the help of a sign." - John Calvin, Institutes, Book IV, Ch. 15.

Translation “It’s a sin to take Jesus at his word that whoever believes will have eternal life.” Trusting Jesus isn’t a sin.
"I'm 100% sure I'm going to heaven." Friendly reminder, presumption is a sin.

Three things a Christian can know: 1. Their sins are forgiven. 2. They have eternal life. 3. God will keep His promises.

Two great blessings of the Protestant Reformation: 1. The proclamation of the true gospel - Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, not by our works. 2. The Bible in the hands of ordinary people. The Reformation reminded the world that Scripture is our ultimate authority and resting in Christ’s finished work.

Reformer Philip Melanchthon wrote about Rome's denial of the free promise of the gospel: “But our adversaries (papists) absolutely abolish the free promise when they deny that faith justifies, and teach that for the sake of love and of our works we receive remission of sins and reconciliation. If the remission of sins depends upon the condition of our works, it is altogether uncertain.” - Philip Melanchthon (1531) - Apology of the Augsburg Confession, Article IV.

And yet Catholicism says you can’t be 100% sure you will go to heaven. That’s tragic. Makes me think of 2 Timothy 3:7 - these people are “always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth.”
Converting to Catholicism from almost ten years of Protestantism was the single best decision I've made in my life.

Reformer William Tyndale wrote of how Rome tells people to place trust in rituals and works for salvation: “These papists...enslave themselves to voiceless rituals and dead works, placing their trust and confidence in them, hoping to be saved by them, and crediting them with the glory and gratitude for their salvation and righteousness. The Pope does not believe he is saved through Christ. For he teaches people to trust in holy works for the forgiveness of sins and salvation—such as in assigned works of penance, religious vows, pilgrimages, celibacy, the prayers and holy living of other men, friars and friars’ robes, and the merits of the saints.” - William Tyndale (1531) - Tyndale's Answer to Sir Thomas More

In light of Reformation Day coming up, John Calvin writes about how Rome wrongly mixes works into the gospel: "And what else do our modern Papists but thrust upon us, in place of circumcision, trifles of their own invention? The tendency of their whole doctrine is to blend the grace of Christ with the merit of works, which is impossible. Whoever wishes to have the half of Christ, loses the whole. And yet the Papists think themselves exceedingly acute when they tell us that they ascribe nothing to works, except through the influence of the grace of Christ, as if this were a different error from what was charged on the Galatians. They did not believe that they had departed from Christ, or relinquished his grace; and yet they lost Christ entirely, when that important part of evangelical doctrine was corrupted.” - John Calvin (1548) - Commentary on Galatians 5:2
