The Curt Flood Award commemorates Flood’s historic judicial fight against baseball’s reserve system, which paved the way for the advent of free agency in 1975. This year’s winner is David Cone, a former Cy Young winner and 5x All-Star!
Cone was an active presence in MLBPA leadership over 17 seasons with the Royals, Mets, Yankees, and two other clubs. He played a pivotal role in CBA negotiations as an American League player representative in 1994-95, when players went on strike for a record-setting 232 days to fend off a salary cap.
Congratulations to David Cone on this prestigious award!
