If you're interested in AI and analogy, would love to see you at this workshop -- June 19 in Lisbon
Happy to announce that we are starting a new workshop on Computational Analogy, called Principia Analogiae (Yeah, the name is a bit megalomaniac. I like it this way. :) ).

I will immediately be replacing all examples of bad interaction techniques in my lectures with these
Probably the best thing you'll see today. In 2017, a group of developers hilariously competed for who could create worst volume control interface in the world. The results 🧵 1/22

Making sense of the scientific literature has contributed to 10,000 years of human innovation but is harder now than ever. This project is laying an AI-assisted foundation for the next 10,000 years, happy to be a small part of it (also @hyeonsuukang and @josephcc).
At long last, it's out! The Semantic Reader Project - our vision for an AI-augmented scientific reading interface... semanticscholar.org/reader/6… @SemanticScholar @allen_ai

Not good news. How can we make innovating lower risk than incrementing?
Super thrilled to share my first pub, which has landed on the cover of Nature! We document the decline of disruptive science and technology across several decades in 45 million papers and 3.9 million patents. nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

The potential to (re)structure unstructured information could be a game changer in so many domains. But how can you know whether to trust the results?
ChatGPT’s current killer app isn’t search, therapy, doing math, controlling browsers, emulating a virtual machine, or any of that other cherrypicked examples that come with huge disclaimers. It’s a lot more quotidian: Reformatting information from any format X to any format Y.

So grateful to the @SkeemaHQ team for working incredibly hard this past year to take our research from the lab into the real world. Thank you to all the involved students, staff, faculty, and especially @yongsung7 and Logan Stahl! Happy new year! 🥳🎊
Thank you for using Skeema this year! Together, we've saved over 500k tabs and released updates like a calm new tab page, search function, revamped UI, and collaboration support. Wishing you a brighter, cleaner, and more productive new year 🌅 #browserdeclutter #NewYearResolution

Maybe the biggest challenge for widespread adoption of black-box AI
Replying to @msbernst
I think that this leaves us with a challenge: we don't have many explainability techniques that are substantially less work to verify than completing the task manually.

Thanks chatGPT! Maybe skeema.com's new theme song? @SkeemaHQ

Sorry to miss @andrewkuznet doing a great job at #uist2022 presenting Fuse. What would you do if you could collect and organize everything on the web in a sidebar that's always with you? We did a 22 month deployment to find out. Also, the direct ancestor of @SkeemaHQ!
A 🧵 for our #UIST2022 paper that presents the Fuse system (and deployment)! Fuse is a prototype browser extension that helps externalize users' mental workspaces. It blends (1) snappy collection, (2) in-browser organization, in a (3) compact but expandable card-based sidebar.

When we read papers our minds build up threads of research, and now our browsers can too! Check out @hyeonsuukang's inspiring work at #uist2022 today.
Looking forward to presenting our Threddy paper at the UIST'22 Search & Exploration session today shorturl.at/eipux If you're working on augmented reading interfaces specifically and sensemaking, search, innovation & creativity more broadly, would love to chat!
