YouTube was originally supposed to be a dating website.
When Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim created YouTube in 2005, the original idea was to let people upload videos of themselves so others could find potential partners.
But nobody was really uploading dating videos, so they decided to open the platform up to all kinds of videos instead.
And the rest is history.
The first video ever uploaded to YouTube was “Me at the zoo"”, an 18-second clip of Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo on April 23, 2005.
