"it's adaptive to not know"
Our senses may be hiding reality from us. Jeffrey Kripal and Jesse Michels explore the possibility that human perception hides deeper layers of reality because seeing them offered no evolutionary advantage. “Some forms of knowledge are secret. They’re esoteric by nature. I don’t think it’s a matter of data. I think it’s a matter of cognition.” “Don Hoffman has this wonderful phrase: fitness beats truth.” “We have adapted through evolution to win the game. We have not adapted to understand how the game is put together.” “There is probably a whole chain of consciousness above us that it’s not adaptive for us to perceive.” “We’re set up to win, not to know.” If our senses evolved for survival rather than truth, how much of reality remains completely invisible to us?

I'm fascinated by the rise of frictionmaxxing as a response to a frictionless life. We engineer away inconvenience, only to discover that some of the friction we removed was part of what made life feel alive in the first place
Someone could probably write a book (if they haven’t already) about the cycle of technology productizing the removal of friction in the name of convenience only for us to discover that the friction was a load-bearing part of the social compact.

A lot of people who call themselves “graphic designers” have never used an overhead projector to paint their noise band’s logo on a king size bedsheet and it shows

twitter is like going to the bar to meet a friend and your boss is there on his laptop kinda looking at you
Dating under the gaze of surveillance capitalism is wild. Emotional vulnerability and consumer-grade espionage are now part of the same storyline and we don’t talk about it enough.

anons and shitposters escape this but most of us tweet under the threat of ostracization from work and healthcare. speech is free but its quiet consequences are deadly when career and welfare are on the line.

I am significantly less interesting and difficult here than I am irl. It's too bad. I wish I had more courage. It's also just that my takes are... ambiguous? I'm rarely eager to take a hard stance on anything. I cultivate multiple views, which can take a lot of time and energy to unpack and who cares? to what purpose? even my most interesting thoughts are a duffle bag of half baked angles.

three stories about times that i FUMBLED THE BAG (maybe you can relate) 1. Steve Jobs used my song to open a press conference. 2. I made a jingle for AirBnB when they were pre-funding in 2008. 3. I made (and lost) $2.4 million selling my songs as NFTs.
