Computer Science must start with C.
Any other letter would be confusing, really.
I've always taken issue with the idea that computer science degrees MUST start with C
I think they must INCLUDE C, but I see no reason to start there. MOST students have a much easier time starting with a higher level language to learn coding basics and get their feet wet building some simple programs and THEN learning C afterwards.
When I organize Boot .dev curriculum, it's all about dependencies: I don't want to teach modulo before division, and so on (to use a math analogy)
Understanding manual memory management and CPU architecture simply aren't prerequisites for variables, functions and loops - they obviously use that stuff under the hood, but students have an easier time moving from the programmer experience, down into the implementation, rather than the other way around.
also: I'm simply not interested in "weeding people out" - I understand that colleges actually want to do that, but outside of the strange ecosystem of student-hostile incentives they've created, there's no need for that nonsense. The best educational experience is the one the most people can get the furthest into.
