I don't think in my lifetime i have ever seen an election overturned because of cheating. That is why the left keeps getting away with it. We never follow through.

I'm just going to say this: Kindle Create is not a good tool. Very primitive. Makes life so much harder than it needs to be.

When I was a kid, we had a record of Karloff telling stories. I wish I still had it. He had a beautiful voice for it!

Here are some excerpts from an interesting tech crunch article (I'll link the full article in the comments) that are worth noticing: "Despite massive investments and widespread hype around artificial intelligence, the technology has delivered zero financial payoff to corporate America outside of tech" (Personally, I would say that inside tech the costs of AI have far outweighed the benefits) "AI does not understand accountability, trust, culture, unwritten rules, ethical trade-offs or fairness" (Actually, if you ask it questions about these topics, it will give you very nice long articles about them. It just doesn't use any of it in its moment-to-moment operations) Lesson: AI has limits. It's an amazing technology but if you're not careful how you use it, you're opening the door to some huge problems.

Security is welcome, but what happens when you lose your device or the provider locks you out? We shouldn’t have to trade control of our digital lives for convenience.

I'm confused by the stuff going on in Poland. Wasn't that supposed to all stop once USAID was gone? Is there another source of "overthrow" money that we haven't plugged yet? (And don't tell me this is the EU. The EU has no money that we didn't supply)

Here's a thing. I got a message through linkedin offering me a chance to participate in an event for "high dollar entrepreneurs." Right off the bat, I'm suspicious. I ain't high-dollar nothin'! So I asked an AI if the event was legitimate and it said yes, it's very highly thought of. So I asked about the guy organizing it and the AI proceeded to gush about how everyone thinks he's wonderful. This set off my BS alarm. So I looked at the event website and, sure enough, the AI was just parroting the marketing copy from the website. Needless to say, this did not fill me with confidence. I blocked the person and reported the message as fraud. Be careful out there people and remember that AI is NOT your friend!!

Just for the fun of it, I asked grok to make an image of the bridge of the original starship Enterprise, with all of the crew members replaced by characters from Gilligan's Island. I gave it a couple chances and it did sort of okay but not quite. I also tried Google Gemini and ChatGPT. None of them quite got it. The closest one came out of Gemini. Here it is.

I just started to apply for a job that was listed on a job site as remote but there was a question on the application asking if I would need to relocate in order to conform to the hybrid requirement. Was this a bait and switch or just incompetence? Either way, I didn't complete the application. Out of curiosity, I checked my records. I found that I'm failing to complete around a quarter of applications. The reasons vary. A common one currently is a mention (on the application but not on the listing) of an AI interview. Observation: Never before have I seen so many potential employers try so hard to discourage qualified applicants. I suspect that those are also the ones complaining that they can't find good people. Just incredible.

Months ago I posed the question, “If he had survived Little Bighorn, would George Custer have become president?” Now, with the publication of part 3 in the series about him, we finally answer the question. Checkout the New History Road! historyroad.substack.com/p/g…

If you have worked in corporate as long as I have, you would know many of the people in charge are retarded.

So I asked Gemini for help with a "writer tagline." And it asked me what my typical protagonists are like and what genre I work in. The answer is: It varies. I guess it's not supposed to. Apparently, all my books are supposed to be the same. I don't know how to do that.

ChatGPT tells me that no one reads science fiction anymore. I hope that's not true, since I've been writing it. But when I look at what passes for SF on TV, I worry that the miserable AI might be correct (excluding the Expanse). But someone must still read it! Right?

Trying to work with Bookbub. Looked for examples of author bio pages. According to this, only best selling authors have pages. So I guess I'll skip it.

The destruction of history is a direct assault on who we are. Burning down historic sites, toppling statues, pulling or corrupting museum exhibits are acts of aggression. The price paid for that should be higher than it is.

Lately, I've seen some posts about whether or not adults should still play role playing games. I know one guy who plays them for a living, so I don't pay much attention to that. But I haven't played in quite a long time. All the people I used to play with have families now, and most have moved away. Still, sometimes I get the itch. Being a writer, I scratch it in a particularly useless and foolish way. I just created the first draft of a character class I call: The Hunter. This ain't the guy who goes into the woods to look for food. This is more like the guy who kills the vampire that's been terrorizing the village. Think Sam and Dean Winchester, only with experience levels (Sam and Dean are incredibly high level). This isn't the first new class I've dreamed up. It's not even the first one this year. Someday, maybe I'll even get to play one.

This cannot be emphasized enough. AI is experimental tech and you don't know what it's going to do!
Don't connect your email to ChatGPT or Claude. It can send emails as you. Sometimes without you knowing. Not worth it.

Chapter 4 is done. Much better this way. Chapter 5 will, hopefully, be easier. Hopefully.

While considering the future in my recent near-future murder mystery, I had to think about AI. I made the creation of a search warrant something AI did for police. It was then evaluated by another AI before a judge ever saw it. To do all this, I had to hand-wave away real world issues with AI written court filings. In the here and now, the use of AI in developing legal material should be a felony. courthousenews.com/fifth-cir…
